F1 2019 - Teams and Drivers - Who goes where?!

I think they are right because they aren't title contenders anyways and it is a safe risk.

But if F1 needs engines, they need Lamborghini engines or Volkswagen Group engine like that in the Bugatti Veyron.

With Honda they essentially have works team status again.
I know this always gets said, but we saw how well that worked out for McLaren. At this point I just don't believe Honda have it in them to make a good hybrid engine. This season they've already used 10 ICE components between the two cars, and pretty much as many MGU-H and MGU-K units. You've only not heard about it so much as Torro Rosso don't moan like McLaren and Alonso did.

Those numbers are also only going to get worse as Red Bull have told Honda that its fine to test new engine components in the TR at every race, so they'll be starting from the back of the grid from pretty much every remaining race.

I'm not sure if you're being intentionally stupid, but how is a massive displacement, non-hybrid W16 or V12 in any way relevant to a tiny displacement hybrid V6...?

Agree - however the difference is that Renault definitely aren't going to adapt their PU to fit Red Bull's packaging/aero requirements (maybe why the Renault fails so much in the RB). Having works status surely means the RB will at least have some influence in that department (although again you only have to look at how much Mclaren's "Size Zero" negatively affected the Honda PU)

Exactly what I was about to say :)

It seems Red Bull have done the same thing to Renault this year as they alone are suffering the vast majority of the failures. The lack of compromise on the aero is killing their engines. Given that Newey and Prodromou worked together in the past it seems a common trait of their cars.

It is all about know-how and passion in/for building sports cars, which obviously both Renault and Honda lack.
See, if you want to buy a scrappy- crappy, cheap car, they are the first to offer you something.

:D

I think he's saying Renault and Honda don't build sports cars (which is wrong) so they have no passion for F1 (wrong again)

I suppose we can ignore Honda's 80s dominance and Renaults title winning cars from the last 15 years or so

He's mentioned Lamborghini engines and the Bugatti Veyron so probably is coming from the 'super car' angle rather than genuine sports cars (i.e. go round a track, not just look and sound awesome).

Anyone who thinks Renault doesn't have motorsport in their blood is obviously not a motorsport fan.

Yeah, they only had their own entire World Series a few year ago that plenty of current F1 drivers came through and which was also completely free to go watch.

Alonso has no chance of a seat at Red Bull after Horner states that he causes chaos wherever he has driven. Story here. Maybe Gasly has a good chance of getting it after Horner says that their preference is to continue investing in young drivers.

Now that Strolls dad has bought him a team does anybody think that Kubica will get that seat at Williams?

Never in a million years. So yeah, it'll probably happen given my history of predictions.

Gasly to Red Bull, Sainz to McLaren and Alonso either stays or goes to Indycar.
This seems most likely, but I would *love* to see Alonso in a front running car, so my heart is telling me that Horner is just playing games to get Alonso to accept a lower wage packet :D

The Force India won't get him to the front though, so it would be a sideways move at best. His prospects at McLaren are probably better than at Force India (in terms of potential ability).

I still think he'll go to Indycar for a year or two.

As ever, Fred has talked himself into a corner. In reality there's only one team available to him - McLaren - that will treat and pay him anywhere near that of a top driver. But he's clearly become disillusioned once he realised what he probably already knew - Honda weren't solely to blame for a dog of a car.

To save face (and preserve sanity) and preserve his value, a year or two in Indycar seems a good option. It is always dangerous to give up a seat, but he's big enough that a reasonably good team would have him back, especially when a number of the current top drivers might be on their way to ending far more successful careers than him by then.
