Been a long time since I seen the floor of the cars properly scraping against the road.

Are the planks still under the cars? Or is this down to flexing, cars leaning into corners?
A couple of years ago they amended the rules so the cars used titanium (IIRC) skid blocks so that they sparked on the ground more to improve The Show™. It'll be more pronounced this year as we've got ground effect back again, so the cars will have almost no rake and sit as flat as possible to the ground.

Why just single out Red Bull when there's at least two other teams (McLaren & Ferrari) who are gagging to be at the front of the pack again and have as much resource as RB do
It's not about resources of teams, it's about Horner complaining about everything and anything that he can see on a Merc which may be better than what they have, he's already made comments that Merc's new pods are not in the spirit of the new rules.

They mandated the titanium skid plates to prevent teams from using very hard, exotic and expensive materials which would allow them to run the cars lower without excess wear. The sparks were a nice by product of this.

What are the "spirit" of the new rules?

Only thing that anyone should be concerned about, as Anthony Davidson, and Ross Brawn says, is that the cars can follow closer and overtake easier.

That is the ultimate aim and "spirit" of these rules

I think Horner's view of 'spirit of the new rules' are that everyone should be a gentleman and respect each other and not design anything better than what RB have.

Interest snippet on The Race's live text feed:

Mark Hughes answers your questions
Bryan asked: Some cars such as Red Bull, Ferrari and Merc have these struts hanging from the body to the floor in front of the rear wheels. What are they for? I didn't see that in Barcelona.

They are floor stays to limit the porpoising. Mercedes had them on the last day in Barcelona. These ones are bigger. It's to keep the floor from touching the ground and stalling the airflow, which induces porpoising. The teams are now in discussion with the FIA about whether they can run these stays in the races.

Horner's mouth is not in the spirit of mouths.

Merc seems to no longer be porpoising or is not nearly as noticeable. Does still seem to be unstable and rotating round the centre axis down the straights, looks like its dancing around.

They have raised ride height.

Each time out they have increased it a bit more, untill they get a balance.

But still appear to be running lower than all others.

All other teams seem to be running higher than in Barca, so a lot less porpoiseing than Barca, even though many teams still getting it here down main straight, which makes sense, as it only really occurs at highest speeds.

It's an interesting solution, this Merc one. I expect once they get a handle on the porpoising issues it's really going to work well for them.

But damn is that an ugly car...

My exact thoughts, the ferrari looks incredible IMO, that merc is just an eye sore. I really hope it doesn't work, not because I want merc to fail, I just don't want ever car moving to a podless design.

Williams have nailed the pod and look size I wouldn't complain too much if teams moved towards that style/size of pod.

All this porpoising is cause for concern though, especially those 2 clips of the ferrari and the williams scraping the floor along the edges.
