Can we please just stop with MV/LH hatred in here this year. I've already basically stopped checking F1 twitter and Reddit because every other comment is something dumb an unrelated. It's just getting tedious at this point.
Agreed and with the obsession with Horner as well. Just seems like there's a bunch of playground kids in here sometimes..

That did make me chuckle. I'm not tryna dictate anything just a request as the forums is by far the more civilised people of the bunch. :D

I don't want to get into the arguement as its what I'm trying to avoid but it's still showing dislike towards him calling him a dangerous driver.

Sorry but no.

No dislike at all.

Purely a statement of fact about his style of driving.

But ok I will hold back in future.

But damn is that an ugly car...

Yep, but I think some of that comes from them being so far off what we expect to see, they do look quite an awkward unelegant shape, i'm absolutely fascinated as to how they've got everything in there!

Looks like they've pushed the guts of the car up higher, trading the higher CoG for aerodynamic efficiency.

I can see that hurting them a bit at some tracks, but obviously they've ran their numbers and think the trade-off is well worth it.

Appreciate, wasn't targeted at you. I'm sure you understand what I mean by the cesspool twitter and reddit have become.

Err sport is always about good guys and bad guys, chose your side.

All for choosing a side but slander and insulting the opposition is not needed and it's boring to see it now.

Two posts that pretty accurately describe Verstappen's driving style is well OK maybe not related to testing so much but a fair comment in F1 context. Some hate him for his aggressive style wheras others love him for it, regardless he's not a Jenson Button of the world (other generally smooth / calm drivers are available).

Personally not a fan of either LH or MV but that's more because I love an underdog & the 'any given sunday' mentality :D

Anyway back to testing chat :) Not sure if I said already but does look like the Williams is a decent step forward too and generally a nice looking package (not so much the livery but that's another debate)

I would love to williams getting into points more this season, looking like they could well be too. Still don't have much promise in Latifi but be interesting to see what Albon can pull out of it this year.

I have to say, subjective impression only, that I think the three customer Merc teams are all looking really good. I reckon Williams will get podiums this season.

How does Horner whinging about everything make us obsessed? This is an F1 thread and anything he says, or in fact what anyone says relating to F1, is open to discussion and opinion.

If he wants to act like a turd most of the time then he's going to get dumped on.

Because Horner hasn't 'whinged' about anything. Just another made up quote. It's the commentators that haven't stopped talking about the Mercedes sidepods all morning.

Something I just spotted on that closeup on the sidepod for Merc... Is the wing mirror mount potentially covering off the regulations on where bodywork must reach to allow them to bin off the conventional sidepod shape?

Sticks out way further than the mirror and is almost a nod to the crazy winglets etc with some tuning vanes along the top of it also

The 'mirror mount'/actual winglet (;)) appears to be the major bone of contention. FIA seem to think that it's legal though.

The mirror mount and housing aren't counted as bodywork for most purposes. They get their own separate rules

The technical regs are always pretty impenetrable, as least to me, but I can't see anything that would obviously limit Merc from doing what they are doing.

The 'winglet' encloses the upper crash structure. The lower crash structure is hidden under the floor. F1 cars don't have to pass any side crash test, so they've found a loophole by eliminating the structure between those two elements.

With this design, I wonder if they're focussing on straight line speed over corner speed. Something that was hugely successful last season.

Are they allowed to draw up any air from the floor into the car for cooling?

Good question. I’m not sure how well that would work for the high speed areas of the track as the relative negative pressure under the cars might reduce or do funny things to the air flow needed for optimal cooling. Though I guess you could use exhaust the areas out at the bottom/rear of the car to reduce this. It’s a long time since I did physics though…….
