F1 license for new game up for grabs

Give it to Ubisoft! :p

Never going to happen but I can dream

Codemasters are more than capable of doing a good job, but then they're also very capable of making a complete mess of it.

Multi platform these days is not a big problem. The PS3 will likely be the lead platform but that's because PS3 to 360 is a much easier way of working and gets closer results.

I think F1 online would be great as longs as its quite simmy. 22 racers on the track, changing weather, sudden shower everyone diving into the pits to put wets on. Engine blow outs, tyre wear, punctures. It would be great as longs as everyone drives clean as possible. Oh and 60fps is a must.

People can barely handle themselves in the slower cars in GT5 online so there's little hope of having "clean" races where the cars can reach 200mph :p

I've no doubt Codemasters will produce a solid and fun F1 game, but I'd never expect a realistic one of the scale of say one of Geoff Crammond's games as long as consoles are its primary target.

I got this e-mail from codemasters this morning.

We've secured the exclusive rights to make games based on the world's
biggest motorsport series - FORMULA 1 - and just had to let you know.

Building on the success of GRID and DiRT, Codemasters Studios is
leading the design and development of the games, across multiple
formats, using a new evolution of the fantastic EGO Engine technology.
The first game's expected to launch in 2009, and will feature all the
Grand Prix circuits, teams, cars, and driver likenesses from that
season.

Ugh, I mean seriously, ugh.

I can not see Codemasters doing an F1 game justice, I expect pure arcade and no simulation which is really not what F1 is about.
It's one of the only series of game to exist where I'd have quite liked EA to be in control.

Haha, modern F1 as a proper sim? No one would be able to pull away in the car nevermind drive competitively against the sim AI. Thats why F1 drivers get paid the millions they do.

Did you see the top gear episode where Hammond tried to drive the Renault? Took him several attempts to even get out of the garage and then couldnt drive fast enough to keep the heat in the tyres and brakes.....and he's driven plenty of very quick cars.

An F1 game has to be arcadey (like the 2006 game) to be useable.

If Geoff Crammond was on board and made it and had his old Simergy team onboard, it would make me buy a Xbox/ps3 (whatever it's on).

I'm not a fanboy about anything else, but I would have Geoff Crammond's children, he's a god among sim racers. GP2, GP3, GP4 were all brilliant! 2 and 3 were masterpieces.

I wonder what happened to him, he's been gone for so long!

geoff crammond wanted a break from F1 games after doing so many and microprose doesn't even exist anymore

Microprose does still exist, just under the Atari name.

Also, there is the problem that for every 1 person who wants it sim like, 5 want to just play it, it would make the average joe very frustrated if they couldn't stay on the track.

The PC is the best niché for pure simulations.

i think gp1 and 2 were the best, 3 wasn't great as the publisher made him rush it out
last i heard he was doing a new version of his old classic stunt car racer
but that was a few years ago now

Why not make it like F1:CE, keep all the aids on and is arcadey as hell, even brakes for you! Turn all the aids off, and you feel like it is a very realistic game, spin outs easily, full damage.
If Codies give options like that, it can be a winner for simmers and casual players:)

Why would anyone make it a "hardcore" sim? The whole appeal to anyone owning the F1 licence is to appeal to as broad a range of gamers as possible.. therefore it will be made as accessible to all gamers as they can.

Im voting for hardcore racing sim on the 360, iv got the wheel now and a game like this (G Grammond styley, but all new stuff), with proper races would be amazing, iv had enough of the arcade stuff and 'try to be sim, but aint' car racer games. I want something challanging and will engage my brain, something to get my teeth stuck in.
