Huh?

Jenson Button believes McLaren will not be able to challenge rivals Red Bull and Ferrari at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on 27 March.

Button was 0.366 seconds behind Mark Webber's top time of one minute 22.544 seconds for Red Bull at testing.

Ferrari sat out the opening day of the final test at the Circuit de Catalunya.

Button said: "I'd be surprised if we can match Red Bull and Ferrari when we get to Melbourne. It's a big ask. To be on their pace is going to be tricky."

Vettel has just gone a second clear of the nearest rival team on a 5 lap run doing a 1:21.8. Today is forecasted as the last day of dry running so should see more quali runs and rad race sims in the afternoon.

It seems Mercedes' full upgrade won't run till tomorrow at the earliest, they just have a new exhaust layout today. Ferrari also testing a new exhaust layout.

I think its fair to say both Ferrari and Red Bull have plenty in the bag if they wanted to push it. If JB was 0.3s off Red Bull yesterday its because Red Bull were being slow (for whatever reason) not JB being fast in the Mclaren (by his own admission).

I expect RB to be the strongest, but Button's fastest time yesterday was set with the testing front wing... which I can't imagine is faster than the proper one.

At least Mclaren seem to have shown some speed, I was getting worried before this test. Hopefully Lewis can put in a good programme today.

Red Bull flexi wing in action again yesterday.

That wing will be within regulations though, because the FIA didn't think their new regs through properly. So it's time for the other teams to do the same.

Nothing wrong with that wing, its the FIA's testing that is broken. Clearly it cant be mimicking on track conditions properly.

Like the double diffuser thing. Learn the rules, and then build cars to the very limits of them. The FIA clearly need to address how they test flexing wings (although, it doesn't make any difference at the moment, as the wing wont go under any FIA testing untill Friday at Melbourne anyway).

its a joke when you see teams using devices mounted on the nose and connected to the wing which probably measure how much weight it takes for the wings to flex.

if flex wings are banneds they should be banned regardless of wether they pass an outdated test or not

Can't wait to watch the Melbourne race on the 27th!
I hope McLaren bring the speed.

Gonna have to stay up and watch it. Otherwise some gherkin on Radio 1 will blab the results before I get to see it.

This REALLY annoys me. For football results they will make sure they warn you and tell you to switch off if you don't want to know, but for F1 they just go "And now the sport, and Fernando Alonso has won the X GP."

Very true. All the top teams should be matching or exceeding the RB wing last year.

Lol how would that work? Everything flexes given enough force.

That wing may or my not be legal remember it's testing at the moment and there is no need for the car to be F1 legal.

The wing will be fully legal for the race weekends just like it was last year.
