F1 Pre-Season Test Week 4: Barcelona 8th - 11th March

How much of that is due to track camber and car set up rather than the wing flex. I doubt they would want the wing to flex in unequal amounts, so I would suggest that the flex isn't as great as that picture would make it look

He's making a right hander so the wing is loaded on the outside and is close enough to the ground to create low pressure and pull that front left into the ground harder giving him extra grip exactly where it is most needed. That's my understanding.

Yeah I agree with gord, if it was just camber the wing would still be straight which it obviously is not. It seems other teams have struggled to copy RB's front wing, I expected most of the top tier teams to have matched it over the winter. I'd expect that's what McLaren are trying to achieve with the contraption Jensen tested yesterday.

Looks like another bad day for McLaren, very little action on track following hydraulic and exhaust problems.

In other news it seems Pirelli will be distinguishing its tyre compounds with different coloured Pirelli branding on its sidewalls.

I've seen white, yellow and green so far.

The amount of extra load from the left side of the car moving faster than the right in a right hander would not give the extra flex that the picture seems to imply. If it did the car wouldn't pass the flex tests.

That picture to me is just simply the angle of the track and the roll of the car towards the outside. I'd doubt very much the left side of the wing is actually flexing more than a couple of millimeters more than the right.

That picture is implying about 5cm of flex difference and to me it doesn't look that uneven comparing the two sides.

I'd like to see that same shot head on, I bet it's nothing like the difference implied by that photo. The still has a fair distance left to go before it hits the floor.

im looking forward to whatever upgrades mercedes add today , they said they are doing it all in stages and from nicos last interview yesterday he makes it sound like almost everything is getting replaced at some point.

aparently new front/rear wing and brake ducts today

Haha, I don't mind doing it for the odd test. I just wanted to make the thread a bit early so we could talk about it with it being the last test and the BIG thread locked.

I've actually been updating the links for timings and commentary the night before the next day of testing, so it's all up to date. But yeah I don't know where to find a source for the time sheets at the end of each day that fits nicely.

Still no laps from McLaren

They're not testing today, they'll be using their remaining 2 days of testing on Friday and Saturday.

looks like mercedes will have undercut sidepods soon

Perez setting a single lap flyer with some pace it seems.

Edit: And now with the fastest time of all Barca testing. I wonder if RB will feel the need to take it or continue to hold back? :p

Edit 2: I do like Autosports running commentary

11:33 Before the Sauber fans get too excited, remember this time last year the Swiss squad also ran an 'aggressive' testing programme, we all tipped Sauber as a dark horse and then Bahrain came...

Whilst Sauber may be trying to look faster than they actually are I have a gut feeling they'll do much better this year. That might just be because I like their driver lineup of Kobayashi and Perez though, I think they'll both be exciting to watch.

Found some footage of testing in Barcelona, from the previous test though:

Kinda wish McLaren ran today instead of Tuesday, track temperature is the highest it's been all winter by some margin. Should be useful data on the Pirelli tyres which have been run in cold temperatures thus far.

Its what teams do who have no sponsors.

Aren't they sponsored by Mextel - owned by the richest man in the world?

Sauber's finances aren't in danger

The track must be quicker today. As Redbull did have previously done some qualifying runs, and haven't been quicker.

I don't for 1 second think that Sauber have the quickest car.
