F1 Testing 2010

You don't what fuel any of the cars were carrying, ...

Yeah, thats what I was thinking.
What I'm doing is looking out for drivers who out on their glory runs.

With Hamilton, you can guarantee that on his faster laps, he is going to drive eyeballs out and go as fast as the car is capable of, in the same way that drivers like Senna and Mansell would've done 20 years ago.

You don't what fuel any of the cars were carrying, the minimum amount yes, but you won't know if they were carrying surplus.

Well if you go to all the live testing sites you will pick up loads of info like

"Schumacher wraps up his high-fuel test after 14 laps, averaging a 1m26.3s."

or

"Massa, Vettel and Schumacher continue to lap in the high 1m25s and low 1m26s range, pretty much confirming the move to heavy cars."

"Hamilton does a 1m23.800s the next time around - quicker than the others from the top four, but not challenging for a qualifying time."

so how do you know hes heavy? no one other than his team know how much fuel he has anything other than 2 lap runs with fast times is pure guessing

the people who comment on the testing sites dont know much more than any of us

Deuse, the problem is that we don't know 100% for sure, what set-ups and fuel loads the teams are using. In general, on the final day (today), you can be certain the drivers such as Hamilton and Massa will attempt to put up a very fast time, if only to boost their ego/morale/confidence. Some other drivers on the other hand, tend not to be bothered by not being at the top of the time sheets.

Lets just wait and see what happens in the afternoon, because the weather is good and I'm hoping that most of the teams will be going out on qualifying simulations, which will give us, the audience, a chance to gauge their performance, before the 1st race of the season.

if you really want to guess who has the best car find a timing site that list sector times and add up everyones fastest sector times to gain the optimal lap time they could have achieved.

ferrari , red bull , mercedes and mclaren seem really close performance wise anyway which is good news for us.

Maybe not down to the last pint of fuel no. But me and my friends are watching all the twitter that's going on
so you can make a good guess, like LH done a 1.20 so that means he did not have a heavy fuel load and so on.

And for the car out the box LH and Button done very well.

Mclaren only got aero update parts on friday :)

So no I would not say ferrari has done better and I can see ferrari falling on their ass in mid season.
most teams still have big aero packages for bahrain they could be one step ahead of mclaren for all you know.

we dont know which cars are hard on tyres and which ones arent either.

I don't really buy the aero update argument. The reason for this is that every leading F1 team, will be developing and updating their aero package, throughout testing and during the season.

So, when TeamA says we are equipping our car with a new aero package next week, this doesnt impress me at all, as TeamB will also, most likely be updating their own aero package within the next few weeks.

You only have to look at what happened last year and despite the in-season testing ban, the teams were developing their cars at a phenomenal rate. This meant that the team who had the fastest car in Race5, didnt necessarily have the fastest car in Race8.

Based on the above, we shouldnt give McLaren extra credit because they brought new aero parts on Friday. Ferrari would argue that McLaren should've brought the aero parts a few weeks earlier.

They all come out with the aero update balls all season long. Smoke and mirrors, atleast webber was honest and admitted the car was pretty much as it would run in the first race.

Look at last year, pretty much no one got a package out prior to returning to europe, yet all of a sudden everyone is claiming to have a new aero package coming.

How often did we hear that last year from Brawn, only to be told at the end of the year they had actually stopped developing the car from silverstone.

If these teams stick some sellotape on a car they would call it an aero update. Smoke and mirrors to keep the rest guessing. Personally i'd rather have my package set for the first race by now, so you can have some set up work done for bahrain.

That will be red bulls advantage if they are confident in the car they will be starting with.

That's exactly what I would be doing.

With regards to the BrawnGP situation: I think they did bring aero updates (as did every other team, during the season), however, people relied and read too much into it. A lot of F1 followers thought that BrawnGP were the only team making aerodynamic improvements to their car (as they were the ones who were making comments to the media, with regards to the new aero package). The problem for BrawnGP was that while they did make aero improvements during the season, so did every other team on the track.

So, when McLaren say that they will bring an improved aero package to Bahrain, my reply to that will be, "But so will most other teams."

All we can do is compare the cars, at this stage, with the times posted thus far. Ferrari, RedBull and McLaren seem to be the teams to beat at this stage.

The problem with your statement is, the drivers know very little about what is going on to the car. The 1st they know about a update [or new part] is when its fitted and they are told to run it.

But would it not be true to say that most, if not all teams will be bringing new aero parts to Bahrain?
