F1 Testing 2012 - Week 1, Jerez

Looks like Mercedes are following in the trend with the stepped nose. Still can't see this car being close to the front somehow, I think status quo will be resumed akin to last year. Hope not though (Huge MS Fan!) :D

If you guys can make anything out ^^

Seems odd we will see car before unveil.

Why not just have a press conference tomorrow and unveil properly.

they were only planning to unveil it in the pitlane at 8:20am on tuesday anyway so i guess it doesnt really matter as they had nothing special planned

The interesting thing is that the new Merc has got Adrian Newey worried :)

New front wing or not, with the design team they have on board they have the potential to build a RB beater :) (Bob Bell, Geoff Willis, Aldo Costa and Ross Brawn)

personally i think its just fear of the unknown. at the end of the testing i wouldnt be surprised if red bull go back to the usual mclaren/ferrari are our main worries stance

Lotus do look handy, now they have a decent driver.

Still I'm taking everything with a pinch of salt Untill we see start grid, in about a months time.

This has not come from Newey, its come from a generic foreign media source apparently quoting him, which at this time of the year means its likely completely made up.

However, I do agree with the general consensus that Merc are not late to testing because the car wasn't finished, but rather because they are holding their cards close to their chest and want to minimise the chances of someone copying it.

That doesn't mean the Merc will be fast, just potentially 'different'.

Lotus were quick last year and fell back quicker after the fly away races than I've ever seen.

Just out of interest - when was the last time a firmly situated midfield team sprung right to the front with no major rule changes taking place?

(Im guessing its a general consensus that the nose height / diffuser changes arent considered major)

If you discount changes of ownership as well as rule changes, the only teams I can think of from the top of my head is Jordan around 98/99 and BAR in 2004.

Because they went in a completely different direction to everyone else on the part of car giving the most performance.

They should not have that problem this year, at least no where near the same magnitude.

LOLrussia are bringing their 2011 car to the test next week going by their Twitter feed.
