(tinfoil hatmode on) the redbull scoop is to aid the cooling of exhaust gasses so they can run lighter materials on suspension components/lower wing (tinfoil hatmode off)

The exhaust can only have one opening. So they can't mix cold air in with it.
Unless you mean something else.

TBH these new cars look amazing, forget about the funny nose just look at the back of the force india for example.....
funky rear brake drums
Clearly I'm going to have to go to the rear ends to get any fill of good looks this year. Woof.

Ted Kravitz - Ferrari's pullrod front suspension is impressive, they confirm had to strengthen upright to handle the increased loads. Gives aero benefit.

Would that suggest there's more in the chassis gap under the "step" than other teams then? Might explain why they've gone for that rigid slope, rather than a U-shape.

Yeah it seemed strange the bump was so big with that suspension

I'm assuming the bump is so big because the bulkhead will have a mandatory thickness anyway (with a maximum height of 650mm seems to ring a bell), so they've lifted up the entire structure to allow for a greater gap underneath the front of the car. Then the nose has the maximum height of 550mm, so you can either have a lower bulkhead with a neater slope or a higher bulkhead with the ugly slope.

I think :p

maybe Im misunderstanding what you are meaning but I thought a few cars had an exhaust opening on both sides of the car (ie two openings)?

Yeah they all have that. They cant have other inlets for cold air, or outlets anywhere else. So opening to the engine and opening at the end of the exhaust. They can't do anything else with it.

Kimi's first impressions

I'd like to agree, but it's hard to.

The reason they did so well last year was down to the fact that they could literally bolt on 2 seconds before Melbourne, just by putting on a new exhaust. If they don't have the speed this year, where's the magical innovation going to come from?

If you're to believe 'Mr Men' it's a higher tub and stepped front nose.

/tongue firmly in cheek. :p

Either way, much better start than last year where they had endless issues.
