F1 Testing 2012 - Week 3, Barcelona

i dont know why people seem to think lotus are so good they did the race sim on new tyres while most other top teams used old tyres.

there fastest lap was a 1lap flyer on fumes and it was still only 0.5 faster than what merc , rbr and mclaren managed on hards on a 7-10lap stint

You can't say that without backing any of it up. How could you possibly know the fuel loads? Link me to which stint the teams used used tyres, and which stint are you referring to with hard tyres?

I thought the lotus race sim pace was very consistent and that's all you can off from testing IMO.

i cant link which stints teams used tyres as it was information available at that time from twitter reports as the stints were in progress.

they did a single lap its pretty obvious if was a qualifying low fuel run, the big teams all did there fastest time and then another 6 laps following it indicating to everyone they werent on fumes.

not only do we not know fuel loads, we dont know engine maps being used either. two cars going out on the same fuel load and the same tyres for the same number of laps in the same conditions could easily gain or lose a second or two with different engine maps and shift times

Maybe, or just peoples feelings about whoever developed it at the time? Its just a bit odd that things like the double diffuser, F ducts, reactive ride heights and EBD's (twice now) have all got completely different reactions from fans, when in essence they are all just clever ways teams have exploited the rules. It gets even more confusing when you add into the mix the people wanting F1 rules to be more open as they claim there isn't enough development and ingenuity going on .

But at the end of the day, this is what F1 is all about. The FIA set the rules, the teams bend and stretch them, the FIA change the rules, wash, rinse, repeat. Creativity always finds a way :)

For me its not just about who developed it - but also the FIA blindly accepting something (like RBR's front wing being too close to the track while in motion, which clearly circumvented some rules and not coming out and stating one way or the other)

Not blaming RBR, Im blaming the FIA for not clarifying the rules when they are being infringed (or stipulating why they think that section can be ignored)

The FIA have been very clear about the flexi wing thing though. The investigated the Red Bull wing, changed the rules, and when Red Bull still passed they went to great lengths to explain why it appeared to still flex while passing the rules.

I also think the rules have changed again this year to even more weight.

The FIA haven't hidden away from the flexi wing thing. They have been very open about the fact that it is impossible for them to replicate on track conditions using a static weighted rig. And once this was made clear, all the teams accepted it and moved on, and in the case of Ferrari (and possibly some others) set about developing their own.

This. It's going to be much closer this year. It will come down to who developes the car the most during the season.

probably the teams that left fota and designed there cars without the RRA who will continue without the RRA limits effecting there development

it would be hilarious if they turn up like brawn did :p

Ferrari did their fastest time on super soft tyres on a single lap before pitting. McLaren did their fastest lap in a 6 lap stint on soft tyres and were 4 tenths off, while this is impressive we still don't know the fuel loads of any cars. Mercedes did their fastest lap on soft tyres in a 7 lap stint and were 9 tenths off. RBR did their fastest lap in a 5 lap stint and were 1.5+ seconds off, no tyre compound recorded by autosport.

These are facts and contradict what you have said here. You and Mr Men are quickly getting yourselves known for posting misinformation.

You can check for yourself here: http://f1tests.co.cc/archive.php and here http://live.autosport.com/commentary.php/id/446

And autosport do not mention anyone using old tyres for the race simulations, nor new ones. They just noted the compound markings, unless you can link otherwise it's just your word. Lawyered.
