F1 Testing 2012 - Week 3, Barcelona

11:43 The Caterham is a full 23 km/h quicker than Button's McLaren on that chart, yet 1.9s slower on the timesheets - shows you the value of downforce at this track.

Anyone else amused with Saubers line "#Sergio stopped in turn seven. No surprise as the #C31 doesn't run with no fuel... 56 laps completed, time for lunch now." :D

Reality? They did it again? Didn't Sauber deliberately run out of fuel last test too?

And Mike, you will still get a little roughness on downshifts as that was always there before. You won't get the long drawn out fart from braking all the way through the corner any more, thank god. Best description I read of it was in F1 Racing magazine. They said it sounded like a skeleton having a furious fap in a bicuit tin! Lol.

the off throttle buzzing/farting was not a nice noise when you were sitting at a slow corner, the red bull seemed to be the worst followed by renault. i'm looking forward to hearing them with a nice sound at silverstonethis year

Most teams do it at least once so they can measure the fuel efficiency of their car without having to bin off a race with too little or too much.

Just found it funny as they normally aren't quite so frank about it

Some have been coloured up, other's haven't. They were corrected earlier when telling everyone people were on super softs when infact they had red marked prototype mediums...

Mystery solved:

14:24 But here is a bit more info from Paul Hembery on the 'mysterious' unmarked tyres: Each team has been given two 'extra' sets of them for this test. The tyres are basically Pirelli's contingency plan if its facility in Turkey should be struck by a disaster and be unable to make tyres for a race.

They have come from an unidentified facility, and the test here is simply to make sure that they perform exactly the same as the normal tyres. They are identical in compound and structure to the normal tyres.

do autosport ever get compounds right anyway?

As they said at the very first test, the only way they can tell is by looking out the window and trying to catch a glimpse as the cars drive by. Plenty of room for simple human error there.

Good to see Pirelli planning ahead.
