F1 Testing 2014: Week 1 Jerez

Only 15 seconds off last years testing pace :D

2 seconds ahead of the first flying lap last year ;)

Last year first day, first flyer was a 1:35, by end of day it was 1:18, thus we can predict, fastest car ever........... :p

Anyone remember how it's comparing to last year in terms of laps done by this stage, I guess you'd expect with hugely changed cars a much worse day in terms laps done by teams and problems seen.

Was it last year that Merc had a couple really poor days at the start, a fire or failure, something, barely did any running for the first couple days then really kicked into overdrive and put in a pretty silly number for every other day of testing.

I know we can't expect too much running, and several red flags, but surely it's a little bit odd that after 3 hours McLaren, Red Bull, Williams and Caterham haven't even managed to do an installation lap?

He was actually 2s faster than the first flying lap last year.

They started the day on 1.35 and ended it on 1.18.

I know, I know.... I was just going for my Daily Express Mail headline shocker! :D

Seriously though, 2 seconds faster than the first runs of last year. So much for the cars being slower. Those Turbos must be helping!

There's no accounting for minor little niggles with such new equipment, several teams inc. Red Bull have already said this.

Both Mercedes and Torro Rosso did some running on Friday as part of their filming days. Seems it has paid off for them, as they're pretty miuch the only cars doing any running atm.

Red Bull only started doing their crash tests 10 days ago, later than everyone else. And they made a 'silly mistake' during setup on the car last night, hence the delay.

Caterham haven't even launched their car yet, which was scheduled 3 hours ago, believe they have been having issues mounting their engine..

McLaren and Williams have been keeping quiet.

I get niggles, but surely you put everything together (probably several times) before getting to the circuit, even before starting crash tests, run it up to temp etc, check as much of the cooling/hydraulics as is possible behind closed doors, which you'd think would be enough to get out and do an installation lap even if that leaves lots of issues to fix before trying again...

Hadn't realised Red Bull were so 'late' to the crash tests, and with an admitted silly mistake fair enough.

Caterham, problems mounting engine, not sure if I'm really surprised or not :p

And not a peep from McLaren/Williams, presumably similar issues I guess

I just expected fairly early installation laps, or attempts at installation laps (see Ferrari, they went out nice and early, had issues sure but at least they were at the point of trying to go out).

Definitely seems to have made sense for Merc/TR to do the filming day.

Any speed trap info?

Are they slower than last year?

Hammy hit 270kph down the straight so far, but most teams are cruising around, as with the 1:35 down towards 1:18 last year(with pretty well known cars) they are more focused on being able to finish a lap than how fast it is. I wouldn't expect them to open up till much later on. Hell most of them are more focused on getting out of their pit box than speed :p

Anderson saying that even though everyone expected hiccups the sheer number of problems is surprising, with lots of cars pretty much leaving the pits finding an issue and being rolled back in. Gutierez sounds like he just did the same, left pit box, and got pushed straight back in.

Hamilton out again, did a 1:27, then car stopped almost straight away, red flag while they get him back to the pits.

Merc car just broke down. Red flag. Glad it's happening now then in a race. What's happened to McLaren?

He may of hit the barrier at turn one opps :)

edit=yes he did.

Hamilton has just gone off track at T1, there was a lot of debris left on track as black rubber marks started, suggesting soemthings failed
Would make sense if he was starting to push the cars' limits.
