F1 Testing 2014: Week 1 Jerez

11:49 Looks like a fair bit of damage on the W05. The course car and marshals are cleaning the circuit well before Turn 1 too.

11:46 Scratch that - it seems Hamilton is in the Turn 1 barriers. Marshals are picking up bodywork on the main straight.

Hammy's binned it.

Front wing failure

That's one way to improve the 2014 noses :o

Shame for Merc, no doubt that's end of the day for them. Only consolation is that other teams probably won't get much done either.

This is why they start off at 1:35 laps and build up ;)

If he went out and did a 1:18 pushing the car straight off, could have been a much worse crash somewhere else on the track.

Not a great indication for failure though, breaking off without pushing too hard? Hopefully he tapped it going over a corner or something and it's not a too weak connection from wing to nose.

What is it Sauber are testing? The car has been out just twice.

Can't imagine they've any data they couldn't have got from driving the car around their factory car park.

Plenty of cars are literally getting part way down the pitlane and going back in. They might go out, and find the 6th gear isn't working, or DRS isn't opening, or kers isn't working, or the rear brakes aren't working, or the readouts on the wheel are not working or useless. There is like 1000 things that can go wrong, or not work well.

It's really a case of build car, think it's done as it should be, send it out, go between 3 metres and 3miles and find a dozen things not doing what they should, go back in and look at them, think you fix them, go out again and they didn't fix it, made 3 new problems, or made the initial problem worse.
