F1 Testing 2014: Week 3 Bahrain

OMG, Lewis is rubbish. Mercedes are in so much trouble. Their car broke and was slower than a Marussia. They're not even going to make the 107% time in Melbourne.

Am I doing this testing analysis thing right? ;)

Yes.

Looking at the timesheets, don't F1 teams have incredibly boring car names. Its like a list of part numbers :(.

If I had an F1 team I would name the car something cool, like Bob.

Noooo! The car names, while a bit square-glasses, are part of F1 and one of the few bits of tradition left.

"Bob" is something Rover would have come with for an energy-efficient bore-mobile when trying to gain some funky points among the American celebrity sheep.

There's nothing "traditional" about a letter or 2 reprisenting the team, and then an incrimenting number.

At least the Ferrari names have meant a few things over the years.

Yep, and hopefully "Fiat" will mean something for them this year :p

Lol. I do hope they realised the name said Fiat before they announced it.

But then considering their latest supercar is called the Ferrari The Ferrari, I wouldnt count on it.

What is giving people the impression the RBR looks fast, because it was third fastest today? The fastest cars weren't doing short/fast runs, they were focusing on race pace/lap numbers because they are at different stages of testing. The RBR with 2 more days to go does it's first qualifying runs with IMHO two possibilities, running full power first time, or still unable to run full power even with basically the car cut to pieces to cool it. Being 2.5seconds down on Rosberg's time from a previous test a relatively long time ago, and likely with quite a bit left in the tank. RBR have little to no reason to sandbag at this stage. They most likely had to go flat out and see what happened to the car because it's something they basically have to know at this stage.

I really can't see 2.5seconds down on a car running at the previous test as looking fast, I think that looks pretty awful for one of the big teams with a huge budget.

More important than the time will be how the car reacted to it. There has to be a point at which RBR know they can produce and put together a significantly bigger sidepod/rear exit chassis before Melbourne. I would think personally that a decision like that would have to be made after checking the car flat out. If that was a flat out lap.... to me, it looks absolutely slow compared to Merc/Mclaren, possibly FI and Ferrari also.

It is definitely shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable starts to a season for many a year - very exciting in its own way. There's definitely scope for a couple of the smaller teams to grab some early season points in the first few races.

Mercedes look to be near the top, but whoever is could well have the luxury of not needing to run the car at high stress and full pace at the start, as some teams look like they will have to run well within themselves to have a chance of even finishing the race.

08:29 But the RB10 encounters a problem straight away, bringing out our first red flag of the day. The course car has picked up the Red Bull mechanics to take them to the car, which has stopped in the second sector.

08:28 World champion Sebastian Vettel makes his first appearance of the final pre-season test, heading out in the Red Bull.

oops

Got up went on the net. Read the rb has broken down on a out lap. It's going to be a great day today :)

I'm expecting two dnfs from lotus in Australia
I know I am only going to watch the first race but still sad

Don't think lotus have once been out of the bottom third

Is more than just the cars tight packaging. The Renault power plant is surely flawed. Not going to look good for Renault in the advertising role

According to Horner before the testing started, when they put the engine on their dyno it was great.
So take from that what you like. The merc engine done 6 days of testing before giving up.

Not caught up with Ted's notebooks this week - are they worth watching or just see today's later?

But all the Renault teams are having issues? Surely something is fundamentally wrong
Maldanado is gonna be so irked this season

Yeah, they've only won the last 4 WDCs and CWCs, 500 points for winning still to be had and steady progress being made.

They may well not win either title this year, and certainly they've a lot of catching up to do, but it will get sorted... it's just a case of how long it takes.
