F1

Just saw a group of lads presumably going to see this dressed in helmets and overalls. One of them had Force India (might have been Alpine overalls). :D

Yeh, it will probably be relatively entertaining. However it's going to make me cringe and roll my eyes a lot, I know it.

Going to see it on Sunday - if nothing else I'm looking forward to the racing scenes as it looks they've gone all out to make that part look authentic, along with being able to film alongside the real cars and drivers. I'm sure the story will be a bit bobbins but most racing movie plots are. Rush and Ford vs Ferrari are the pinnacle imo and I'm not sure this will live up to those but I'll be turning my brain off and hopefully enjoying it.

If it's even half as good as Rush/Ford Vs Ferrari, it won't be too bad.

I think it will be more silly/less grounded than those two though.

Seeing this tonight, weirdly my new partner was happy to see it too. This is despite me knowing full well she's going to fall asleep through it.

Actually shocking how bad the cinema experience is nowadays, theres just nothing on!

So….much to my surprise this was actually a lot of fun. Definitely a visual spectacle and good to see in the cinema, preferably IMAX. Jesus, is it loud though, the soundtrack and sound effects. You need ear defenders practically.

From an F1 purist’s perspective the only really egregious part is the Hungaroring race, that will have you cringing. And the whole “build the car for combat” bit is daft, although in the longer scene it makes more sense what he was asking for.

It’s definitely cheesy, but fun. You can see where the Top Gun angle is coming from. I don’t think Sonny is as good a character as Maverick though.

Edit - the criticism that the script is a bit shallow / there's a lack of emotional depth is sort of fair, but it's a summer blockbuster, it does what it's supposed to do. I mean, you can probably write the script before seeing it. I don't think the criticism of the female characters is right either, they have bumps in the road but then get to a good place. Are female characters not allowed to have flaws?

It really is shocking. We have few tickets and struggle to use them. Even parking is free.

As to the thread, I don't really watch non fiction, unless it's so ancient in history, it feels like fiction.

I may watch this when it comes out. But really.. I don't have any interest in it.

My partner enjoyed it more than me, so I think if you don't really watch F1 your be fine
Although we both said that essentially each race had the same drama occur. The best bits were honestly the more character driven stuff. Though there are a few absolutely terrible characters in this - your know them when you see them.

Driving scenes were really well done and the little halfway montage was well put together.
Soundtrack is 10/10.

It's a nice if fairly average movie that has some great scenes and acting. It's highs are when it's allowed to breath a little but these are few and far between.

Your be glad you watched it at the cinema but questioning how much better it could have been.

I seen it on Thursday night, I actually thought it was pretty good. The little tricks he pulled off in a few of the races had me smirking.

I enjoyed it, the story wrote itself to be honest but i’m not sure what they could have done differently.

Watched it on Thursday, another 7/10 in a sea of safe bet 7/10’s that seems to be the mainstream movie industry at the moment.

Overall it was a good concept for a film. The score was fantastic, might go rewatch in Imax just for the sound. Compared to watching most races on catch up it was more entertaining, but some of the action felt too forced, as if Liberty Media was dreaming this is what they wanted F1 to be. Enjoy it for entertainment, leave the serious business at home.

Saw it tonight in Imax at Glasgow Science Centre. Very good racing scenes, as an F1 fan of course I found inconsistencies but My son who isn;t an F1 fan said he enjoyed it very much. There wasn't a spare seat in the cinemas either. 7 Brabham Fan cars out of 10 Bernie bans.

Saw it this morning in IMAX.

Not an F1 fan so I didn't notice any of the technical issues or flaws about how the sport is represented in the film.

It was brilliant.

9/10

P.s even the missus enjoyed it.

It was pretty enjoyable and was glad to have caught it in the pictures. It wasn't perfect and can see why some F1 fans might not like the drama and predicability. Still a solid outing imo.

Here my full review here..

Went to the local flea pit today to watch this, switched my brain off for a couple of hours and thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes, there were some things technically wrong and Brundle and Crofty were incredibly wooden, but it was decent. Will watch it again when it comes out on streaming/whatever.
