I don't really want Roy, and I don't really want Redknapp either. Unfortunately it's all a bit short notice now.

Pep would be interesting but it'll never happen. I can't think of anyone who would suit the job really.

We need someone with the attitude that Di Matteo has at Chelsea, who will use the experienced players properly and not do daft things to shake the team up for the sake of it.

Ultimately though the attitude of the entire England team (players) needs to change. Are our young players the way forward? Only if used correctly.

He has two things in his favour :

1) Good track record in international football with mediocre sides
2) Has turned around mediocre premiership sides (apart from Liverpool where he wasn't called Kenny) and had them play above their ability.
3) He's a total 'yes' man that the players wont look up to

.

It's only really Liverpool fans that hate Hodgson, most if not all ex Liverpool players/pundits that I've seen are actually quite sympathetic to the circumstances that he had to deal with during his time at the club.

Don't disagree with you there, but quite simply, he's not the publics no.1. I don't think he will prove a popular choice if appointed and that will just make the job harder.

One season is establishing them?

Considering their history I'd say 2 seasons without a hint of relegation trouble is establishing them yeah :)

As for the rest of your post would you not agree that to actually win these tournaments then neither Woy or Arry are the answer?

Well, the media set their stall out wanting 'Arry, so it will be interesting to see how they react to old Woy. Will it be another, written off before he's managed a side? (as seems to be happening in here)

Levy would want huge compensation from the FA, Roy will be a cheaper option but also logical. International experience, not a whore infront of the press like Harry, less baggage, tactically he is far better as well (not hard when compared to Harry but still).

I don't want Redknapp getting the job however I'd have less of an issue with Redknapp getting the job for a couple of years than Hodgson. Just like with Bale, the press go way ott with their love for Redknapp and because of that, supporters from other clubs go way ott with their hate for Redknapp. Redknapp's simply a better manager than Hodgson. On top of that, at least Redknapp tries to play a style of football that would be conducive with the players we have available and is the type of character that will give the players a boost going into the Euros.

Hodgson's record and managerial approach is no better than Fat Sam's and I'm sure nobody wants him anywhere near the England side.

edit: I should add, both Redknapp and Hodgson are short-term managers and the type of manager that shouldn't manage the side beyond the Euros (Hodgson shouldn't even get that).

Hodgson doesn't have what's need to manage egos or expectations at that level. This is the FA trying to employ someone they feel comfortable with (yes man) and saving a few quid.

If England want even the remotest chance of winning anything (or coming close) then Hodgson is an awful choice. He wont get the most out of the big name players as they're such a bunch of show ponies and will likely be in a huff about his appointment before they even kick a ball under his management.

YOu have to ask why he would take the job, 64 does he really want that stress, I mean he has done nothing in England so it looking for that one big thing, he did that taking the Liverpool job, he would be an idiot to take the England job.

Hodgson has a very good record of turning relegation candidates in to mid table teams. He has never been able to turn a mid table team in to a top team. He's the equivalent of a drill sergeant in the army. Break down a bunch of recruits and teach them the basics before passing them to someone more qualified to take them to the next level.

The media might love him now but once it goes wrong and the excuses start flying he's going to fall back to earth like an Owl shaped meteor.

What chance the FA are playing Harry? He wants the job, but now needs to prove it and do the heavy lifting to get out of his Spurs contract.

Could the FA be that smart..?

No , as Lawro just said on motd wou and the FA aren't going to fall out about money. Give Roy a chance we don't have the players to win the thing anyways. First tournament in a long while where I have very little enthuasim for Engaaaaland:(

True. No manager in the world could get us the semis let alone the final, a quarter final would be decent for us. We just don't have the squad, when you look at the likes of Spain, Germany, and the Netherlands we are so far behind.

If you're writing off our chances of winning the Euros then appoint somebody that can/will build for the longer term. As I said above, Hodgson's a short-term manager that makes decisions for the here and now, not with a few years down the line in mind.

Unfortunately you're wrong. Cappello and Sven both got us to quarter finals and not once was that classed as anything other than a failure. The English managers before, during and soon to be after did get and will get a far easier ride for achieving far less.

Hodgson's a short-term manager that makes decisions for the here and now, not with a few years down the line in mind.
Honestly don't know why we got rid of Cappello if Roy gets the job. They're both defensive managers, they both favour experience over youth and they both play 4-4-2. Roy's the English equivalent of Cappello just without the success and ability. The only reason I could see for employing Roy over Cappello would be if we were entering in a European Owl Lookalike contest.

We tried that with Sven I liked him but the media and folks on here knocked him. For me he did very very well. Capello did an above average job as well. Hell even hoddle did a good job........ Or is that my rose tinted glasses taking effect :p
