The funny thing is, the FA will be doing the same thing we are, looking at stats, looking at what is available, They have gone to Spurs and Levy has blown the FA out the water.

There's been talk that some Spurs fans are disappointed that Redknapp isn't getting the England job but it would have been interesting to see how hard Levy would have fought to keep Redknapp had the FA called (I don't think they ever did because had they, Redknapp would have told us (no doubt from his car window on SSN) about it). Redknapp/Levy has never struck me as a perfect match.

so far he has nearly half in favour in the poll, am I missing something ? I thought this would be the most one sided poll ever, the bloke is a buffoon

The people voting, full time or just for the euros, tbh he is too old and clueless to do anything on the international stage

UAE bossing the world stage

The only possible explanation is that they don't care enough about England to be willing to decapitate themself with a rusty scythe over Hodgson.

Hodgson is a decent manager with plenty of experience.

However, declaring that the next England manager had to be English was a crazy decision. Even limiting it to the UK would have thrown up far better candidates.

I'd take Roy over Redknapp any day of the week. What he lacks in charisma compared to Redknapp, he certainly has the edge on him (ten fold) in terms of experience. When Harry can't make an emergency signing half way through a major tournament, his plan B will be ???????????????? Redknapp is another Keegan in the making.

My word he really upset you lot when he was your manager

I personally don't see the need for an English manager. Other teams have won countless cups with foreign managers relative to their team. I think they are trying too hard to emulate Spain or Germany, but we don't have the players for that I believe.

No doubt we will do horrible in 2014, and then everyone will be calling for the chop. (Assuming Stu Pearce is still handling the Euro 12)

FA appraoch Hodgson for England job.

I'd like to see Pearce get the job, but maybe they are setting him up as the next-next England manager.

Let him get some more experience with the Olympics and the under 21s, and then by the time the position is open to him, most of the under 21s will be playing in the first team anyway.

He has two things in his favour :

1) Good track record in international football with mediocre sides
2) Has turned around mediocre premiership sides (apart from Liverpool where he wasn't called Kenny) and had them play above their ability.

When it comes to polishing a turd like the English national side I can't see anyone better.

Indeed and at least he'll have a plan A&B unlike 'Arry who’ll be managing with a nod and a wink. Still the FA know what they are doing with their careful financial consideration and long term vision.

As the old saying goes, you can't make a chicken salad out of chicken **** so I fear the management position is largely irrelevant where success is concerned.

This is the way I feel.

We payed Capello millions upon millions and where did that get us in the 2010 World Cup? one of the worst group stage performances I can remember from an England side and a 4-1 thrashing to ze Germans.

What do we have to lose? if we fail to qualify I'll be disappointed but it didn't spoil my enjoyment of Euro 2008.
