You cannot make claims like that.

You have no idea if it impacted the team form, or even if they had said nothing that they still wouldn't have imploded.

At the same time you can't claim it didn't make a difference. which is the point I think, if this business with the F.A. hadn't of happened, Tottenham and Harry wouldn't have had an excuse and any resulting drop in form would be all on them.

Pep wouldnt take England, get real.
FA wont risk 'Arry. Gutted as I want him out of spurs ASAP.
Roy will drill them, which is needed, he is good with mid table teams = England.

See how he does before he is judged.....Oh wait, this is England.

WOY OUT! BOOOOOOOO

part of me is glad Redknapp isnt in the running...because he is so close to the tabloid 'journalists' no matter how poorly we did in the euros nothing would be said..they would give him an easy ride no matter how badly we perform.

at least this way if they are terrible they will be told in no uncertain terms

The journalists have really, really embarrassed themselves over this. Motd was hard viewing with all the mongy views, the papers are no different, nor is twitter. They're an absolute disgrace to the nation and ought to be ashamed of themselves. They're so insular they think that what they type is truth, they think we all agree with them. I don't think they've twigged on that the only people who want Redknapp are the gutter press and white van drivers. Nobody who thinks about football wants him. I'm ashamed of our press, the likes of Samuel and Winter are our most successful writers, and Samuel's article this morning in particular is an absolute disgrace. The fat ****.

Not overly disappointed if Roy does get the job. Has a lot of European experience and, if given time, should do ok. Like Admiral Huddy though I am annoyed by the way the FA handled this. I never thought they would approach Redknapp, his face would never had fit with the FA, but to let this carry on when he was never the first choice candidate was wrong, very unfair on both Redknapp and more importantly Tottenham. All this nonsense about the teams form dropping because of the speculation could have been avoided.

Let me get this right it's the FA's fault the press and more importantly Redknapp talked up him getting a job that they never approached him or Spurs for. Or more importantly they never want him to have! They are going to appoint a manager in the time frame they laid out too.

I'd love to make a comment about his face not fitting too ;) He's got a......

If Tottenham's drop in form was down to the speculation around Harry then he is as equally responsible as the FA, he should have made it clear publically that he was not interested in the England job and was at Tottenham for the long haul, even if that was not the case behind closed doors.

Instead, he basically used the media to line himself for the job once the season had ended.

The England manager job is a poisoned chalice. When this bunch of prima donnas fail in the Euros the manager's head will be on the chopping block. I was actually surprised when I checked out Woy's record, he's not a bad manager. Did quite well with the Swizz.

He did outstandingly well with the Swiss tbf, if he can do something similar with us I'll be pleased. Doubt the players will listen/care/be good enough

No, my point is as soon as the press starting going on about the drop in form at Spurs being due to Redknapp being linked to the England Managers job, they should have come out and said "we don't want Redknapp."

Why string everyone along if there was never any chance of him being approached?

the players shoulsnt be allowed to comment either..their job is to play for whoever is appointed..not their favourite

at least Darren Bent will be happy..it means his england career isnt over after all

My word he really upset you lot when he was your manager

Nearly everything he said or done was the wrong thing but even putting his time at Liverpool to one side, he shouldn't even be in consideration for a job this size.

I never thought I'd be defending Redknapp and I certainly wouldn't want him to get the job either but the amount of people that are glad Hodgson's got it (seemingly only because Redknapp didn't get it) is incredible. Redknapp's a far better manager than Hodgson and more importantly, he's far better suited to managing England.

Why should the FA respond to every little bit of media coverage? What if every league manager was linked to the role, they'd just be denying everything.

The FA didn't string anyone along, they didn't mention him, only the press did. We have seen in the past when players have transfer rumours about them, only to be offically denied by the clubs, for the rumours to just continue, so I doubt it would have made any difference.

I see even after ther game yesterday Redknapp was talking up his chances about leaving.

“I don’t think Gareth will be going anywhere, whether I’m manager or not,” said Redknapp.

Why is he? Less medals? More clubs have been bankrupted after Redknapp has left. Seriously what has Redknapp actually achieved to garner this reputation? 1 solitary FA Cup? I don't think Hodgson is the messiah, but he's certainly no worse than Redknapp.

Except they did -

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17781705

FA Board Member specifically stating Harry Redknapp should get the job. Also there were comments from several others, including Trevor Brooking if my memory serves.

who is not on the panel that will choose the next England boss.

I mean he says he wants a manager with a 'winning mentality'? I mean we just got rid/let him walk away a manager with 9 League winning medals, European Cups etc. Doesn't Gartside think it's down to the average players?

Like that matters. Just shows what an almighty mess the FA is.

Simple fact is the FA are supposed to be the ruling body of English Football. Whether or not it actually did have any effect on Tottenhams performances, they should have been completely open and honest and made sure that there could be absolutely nothing that could come back on them. If they had no intention of approaching Redknapp, they should have said so before the whole media thing got out of hand. Now they have just left themselves open to all sorts of grief, and in my view Tottenham and Redknapp have every right to feel aggrieved.

There's been talk that some Spurs fans are disappointed that Redknapp isn't getting the England job

it would be harsh to say he hasn't done well for spurs, because he has. we have a tough possibility of getting cl football again because of him and he hasn't actually spent as much as some may think, he has worked well with what he has been given, even if he maybe could've gone about it better.

they said on MOTD2 that the FA would be looking at over £10m to get redknapp from spurs. is that such a drastic figure if one looks at what the FA threw at capello?

what is worth remembering, is just how actual tactics are down to redknapp? he has a fairly big group of people behind him; sherwood, ferdinand, allen, jordan, bond and a GK coach. is he just a front man?

should we be 4th? probably. the league is fairly accurate. could newcastle or chelsea deserve 4th just as much as us? absoloutely.

the tactics, the lack of rotation, the lack of investment after christmas is what scuppered us. i don't know if redknapp can be 'blamed' for taking us as far as he can when we don't splash the cash on fee's or wages like other cl veterans.

if redknapp does stay, levy needs to get into lewis/ENIC ear and get some investment in though a lot of this rides on the new stadium.

we've been in a similar position before with jol. jol got us a taste of european football for the first time in ages. things didn't work out as berba and keane left (didn't work out too well for either of them tbf - i'm seeing a pattern may form here for modric and bale) and levy thought we needed a new manager with more experience and brought in ramos and we all know how that went.

as a spurs fan, i just want a manager who will build a team, over 5-10 yrs. redknapp is maybe too old to do this. i don't want moyes, or rogers but the person i would want (pep, mourinho) would never come and i'm dreaming if i think they would.

I really like both Harry and Roy. Both seem to have a character and approach (in terms of personality) which I think the FA are looking for, and I feel they both deserve to be considered for this.

Given Harry has been a footballer manager since 1983, I don't think the FA have decided against him due to Spurs' recent drop in form. I would personally think that it's down to his lack of worldly football experience - he's managed 5 clubs throughout the 4 English leagues, whereas Roy has managed high level, mid level and international teams around the world.

I personally think Harry would still be my first choice, but I can't help but feel that Roy maybe deserves a crack at it more than Redknapp. It's a difficult situation, as you'd also think that Harry would command stronger respect from the playing staff than Roy, simply because he's played a role in more of their careers (Lampard at the most senior, down to the newcomers like Walker - also throw in the peripheral players like Crouch, Defoe, Carrick, G Johnson, Zamora, etc.).
