FA Cup **Spoilers**

Are you kidding me? Blackburn bought the title, Newcastle spent a lot of money (British record transfer etc), Leeds were buying players left right and centre (Seth Johnson £7m and £40k/week for a non-international, Fowler £11m, Keane £12m, Ferdinand £18m, Viduka £6m, plus Batty, Mills, Bridges, Huckerby, Dacourt, Duberry, Wilcox, Matteo etc etc were all £3m+. the list just goes on and on.

Have to agree with Hangtime there, Leeds bought and bought there way up the league and almost cost them the club.

Chelsea could basically have gotten the titles they got with only 1/4 of the spending, if that, because the base of the squad was there before they started to spend silly money and most of those players Mourinho bought are long gone for normally big losses.

Then again, they were in debt because they'd improved a lot but also spent quite a bit already improving. Utd, Arsenal, Spurs, Villa, Pool, they all spend lots for success, the only difference is Chelsea aren't in debt at the end of it and Arsenal haven't got sucked into paying the 20mil + prices regularly aswell as lower wages and some pretty lucky huge deals, like Petit/Overmars.

City are spending very very big, but no more than Chelsea, however two years before Mourinho took over, the Chelsea team was still fairly similar, the City squad now compared to two years ago is, does Ireland count, was he playing two years ago, thats about it. But then they had a significantly worse squad than the one Chelsea started with, and likely haven't spent any more when you factor in the costs of Gallas, Lampard, Hasselbaink, Cudicini and everyone else who was already there.

Despite not liking their treatment of Hughes who had done a fantastic job, and not being fans of Adebayor, they play good attacking football and thats good for the league so I'm FAR happier they get in 4th and we see them play on tv more often than the dire and boring to watch Liverpool..... Liverpool have been largely boring to watch for 5 years anyway, actually more entertaining to see them lose than win for most fans.

Wicked. Another big team out of the cup, hopefully giving Arsenal a better chance of winning it. Someone just needs to take care of Chelsea and Leeds now, and we'll be sorted.

what annoys me, is crap teams like man city who might actually make it top 4 now they have £££ and teams like liverpool doing rubbish.

Before chelsea threw money around teams like newcastle, leeds broke into top 3 regularly without any sugar daddy owners

You know what annoys me? Ignorance.

Before Chelsea threw money around they still broke into the top three.

98/99 season, 3rd.

They would have still been without the Premiership crown though without Roman's ££££££££££££££.

When did I say that we would have won it without his input?

My point was that we were capable of finishing in the top 3 without the influx of cash.

With regards to it not being often enough we did regularly finish 4th/5th.

People seem to have this idea that Chelsea were a mid table team before Abromovich turned up....

You might have finished 3rd in 98/99 but I don't think that one finish makes you a "top four" side on a regular basis.

Pre Roman Abramovich 2003, you finished;

01/02 - 6th
00/01 - 6th
99/00 - 5th
98/99 - 3rd
97/98 - 4th
96/97 - 6th
95/96 - 11th
94/95 - 11th
93/94 - 14th
92/93 - 11th (start of the Premier League)

Looking at that I wouldn't of called Chelsea a "top four" without Roman Abramovich and his money.

Since Chelsea have spent his money;

03/04 - 2nd
04/05 - 1st
05/06 - 1st
06/07 - 2nd
07/08 - 2nd
08/09 - 3rd

So that's twice in ten years Chelsea were top 4, once top 3 before Roman Abramovich :)

I didn't say we were consistently top 4.....

The above isn't exactly the sign of a poor team is it.

Are we not counting when Chelsea failed to finish top 10?

Well we still have a better track record than Sheffield Wednesday :)

The point isn't about if Chelsea finished 11th/14th or whatever. The point is we were a more than capable team before Abromovich came along. You can't deny that...

I'm happy we started off as an average team, means I can't be accused of being a glory hunter.

Can't say the same for Gimp... :p

Since when did Sheffield Wednesday come in to this?

Chelsea were average at best. Chelsea wouldn't have won anything or have the players they have today without Roman Abramovich's money.

He didn't say that originally though, he said before Chelsea splashed the cash other teams were capable of breaking into the top 3 regularly. Before the money Chelsea managed that only once...not exactly regularly.

You have a dig and my team, I'll have a dig at yours :)

We are talking pre-Ambramovich....the whole point of this discussion...

Average - In mathematics, an average, central tendency[1] of a data set is a measure of the "middle" or "expected" value of the data set.

In other words 10th...

01/02 - 6th
00/01 - 6th
99/00 - 5th
98/99 - 3rd
97/98 - 4th
96/97 - 6th
95/96 - 11th
94/95 - 11th
93/94 - 14th
92/93 - 11th (start of the Premier League)

Looks like average at best to me

You'd have to be a fool to not recognize Chelsea were a team on the up... (not financially)
