FAIL!

How much oil did that take! Jeeesus! :o

I wish I could remember!

I don't recall brimming it, I think I just kep going and figured that must be enough.

The worst part is I had my very car-centric mate with me at the time and he didn't say anything.. he was such a car nerd to the point where he passed his test at 17yrs and 2 months and he's currently applying to be a traffic officer and could spot a fiesta 1992 hub cap at 100 paces.. never thought to mention I might wreck my engine by putting too much oil into it.

To be honest that was just the start of what was a hideous ownership experience but its been followed up with a 205 gti that eventually broke its seatbelt release buttons so I had to get out of the seatbelt like I was melting, a celica with an exploding engine and my current Focus ST with an exploding turbo.

Oh yeah and I got a tuned up mini when the XR2 got too annoying with its shagged 2nd engine and the steering column caught fire in my face.

lol! It would appear I suck at cars.. I like driving them quite hard when the opportunity presents itself safely and for the most part my 205, celica, ST and the faultless ST24, focus TDCI sport and mfr faulty Octavia VRs in the middle of all that lot would testify that I don't break them for fun.

I once checked the oil and water on my car years ago, I forgot to put the rad cap back on, 10 minutes of driving and steam was coming from under the bonnet, I pulled over and there was the rad cap sat at the side where I left it, put it back on and carried on my way, no harm done.

I'm confused how antifreeze would kill a pump.
After all it's basically no different to concentrated screen wash.

I didn't ask at the time. I did assume that windscreen wash contains some anti-freeze but not pure concentrate, which is what trashed the pump?

Either way, he told me that was the problem, and when I thought back I remember being in a hurry when I filled it, grabbing a blue bottle and pouring.

When I went to look again the other day, my screenwash was sat on it's shelf next to a bottle of... anti-freeze. :o

Oh dear.

Can't think what would be in there that would damage a pump that isn't also in screen wash.

Nothing, they are both the same iirc just different dilution, as I put screen wash in my radiator by accident with no ill effect.

I wouldn't have thought you'd have to be particularly selective about what you put in either the radiator or the screen wash. Last time I topped up my screen wash I just used water with a fair dollop of fairy liquid, working fine. And before anyone asks, no it doesn't come out all bubbly :p

I love how people assume because it didn't self destruct the moment you put screenwash into the coolant system its had no long term ill effect :p

Nice work :), I once manged to flick the lights on my corsa while i was getting out and didnt realise to come back to a dead battery, thats about as bad as ive managed.

My lights buzzer doesn't seem to work and I haven't been bothered to figure out how to fix it. I've left them on a couple of times, and drained the battery once, I now just keep a spare motorbike battery knocking around in the car so I can jumpstart myself whenever.

Dish detergent will go mouldy, use an alcohol based screenwash.

Screen wash.

It's sold in motorfactors, and it says screen wash on the bottle, and it's for going into your screen wash bottle as directed in order to wash your screen.

So that's screen wash, ok? Screen. Wash.

Fine, fine, I'll go buy some screen wash. No cost-cutting for me then. :D
