After finding something rare for my friend’s autistic son on eBay in US, I sent a PayPal payment to seller which failed and taken from bank account. She sent me details to pay on WesternUnion. The payment was received and then cancelled by WU. Again the payment was taken by my bank - Santander.

I need the money back as cash flow issues as got a bill and two direct debits. How long will these refunds take? Do I need to contact PP, WU or my bank?

The payment has gone through. About £250 out of pocket

If they're pending payments you'll be looking at anything between a day and a week for them to drop off in my experience. Depends on your bank.

Western Union is not allowed as a payment option on Ebay. If you pay that way and it falls through Ebay are not liable. The seller should not be asking you to pay that way at all.
How do you know they failed? Did you receive the emails verified authentic?

You should speak to your bank.

But if the seller asked you to pay with Western Union then unfortunately...

OP: Constantly complains about people "wasting" 10p on carrier bags instead of reusing them
Also OP: Sends £250 to random stranger on other side of the world using payment method which is basically only used by scammers

LOL I literally just typed this and your post came up.

'Berates people for paying 10p for a carrier bag, sends £250 via western union. OP is winning hard.'

we need more of this the OP is a legend.

If you paid via credit card (not debit), then you could speak to your bank to do a charge back.

If it was the seller who told you it failed, not Paypal or Western Union, you've been fleeced of £500.

Also - I thought Ebay don't use Paypal now? Or is that just for sellers.

Using Western Union payment away from the site though, absolute madness.

Never sent money abroad through PP or WU. I have a lot of stress going on with my life at the moment - work, health and my grandmother. My head's not in the right place. I just want my money back. Santander is taking the p with call times to the fraud team.

With eBay you never send money, you use the purchase option.

Sorry to hear about your problems, but if life is hectic focus on yourself, not others.

(You mentioned you bought it for a friend's autistic son)

Ebay is ditching Paypal completely and moving to Adyen payments processor.
This has already occured with sellers and PP is in place with buyers until next year.

Either way anything done through the ebay client will be protected. But im guessing the OP hasnt done that.
