Failed PayPal and Western Union payments but taken from bank account

With eBay you never send money, you use the purchase option.

Sorry to hear about your problems, but if life is hectic focus on yourself, not others.

(You mentioned you bought it for a friend's autistic son)
How is his mum going to explain he’s not going to get this item? He doesn’t understand money, fraud etc

I assumed this was the bank saying it failed.

But yes, if it was the seller you've absolutely lost the WU at least.
Was it cancelled by WU? Or did the seller tell you this?

Assuming you paid by PayPal through eBay you should get that back.

Please don't say you paid by PayPal gift outside of eBay?

Could the op please clarify...

-Who said/how was it communicated the WU payment failed?
-Who said/how was it communicated the PayPal payment failed?
-Did you pay PayPal via eBay? Or outside eBay?

Because this will tell us if you've been scammed 0, 1 or 2 times

I've had PayPal payments on Ebay fail in the past (seemingly because the seller's details weren't correct) and I don't think the money ever left my account. The fact it has left OP's account is a bad sign imo.

She won't have to, because you of course realised it would be sensible not to mention it to him/his mother until it arrived in one piece (because scammers aside, there is a lot which can go wrong in shipping something rare several thousand miles across the planet). Right?

Also, whether you have been scammed or not is irrelevant to your cashflow problems. If it was a legitimate transaction which had gone through you still would have been short of the money needed for your bills

Why would the autistic son pay for your (obvious) error?

exactly

I'm confused...

£250 is gone - your not getting that back.

I really do not understand in todays society how people still fall for this stuff....Scams will be around as long as people continue to fall for them I guess.

Western Union / gumtree "post it to me and i'll pay you via paypal" / text message links / Found an item and it's 85% cheaper than anywhere else - is it legit??

Unless OP has been playing the long con the whole time - a meek supermarket wage worker who is helping out a disabled friend - I am compelled to offer to send the money so she can pay her bills. Am I being scammed?

its all about the 10p bag

WU can be dodgy.

Many years ago I sent a friend in the US some money via WU. I'd used it before and always done the security checks. Then the last time they didn't ask me any security questions. I assumed at the time maybe I'm a trusted customer.

Then a day later when the friend went to pick it up she was tailed back to her house and eventually a knock on the door happened and it was 2 FBI agents. Apparently the transaction had been flagged as potential fraud.

did op really get scammed by the same person twice? LOL
