Fallout 4 to feature Nvidia Gameworks

Well it does add bit but not much tbh.

lol! Good one :D

We’ve managed to confirm through sources with knowledge of Nvidia’s and Bethesda’s working relationship that Bethesda Game Studios’ hotly anticipated Fallout 4 will feature technologies from Nvidia’s GameWorks library on the PC.

We’ve learned that Nvidia has been working with the studio to implement effects from the GameWorks library into the game for some time. These will include things ranging from ambient occlusion to shadowing and lighting effects. However, it’s not been made clear to us whether the game will launch with all of these GameWorks graphical effects or if some will be added to the game via incremental patches post-launch.

They are so full of crap.

All they do is take pot-shots and spew some waffle about "sources". They have no sources, it's a couple of students in their parents basement.

Fallout 4 - PC Graphics Settings Menu Revealed

Don't see any GW's, lols wccftech.:D

TAA could be TXAA?
Also under AO they've not shown the dropdown, so it could have HBAO+ in the list
there isn't enough information in that settings menu to clearly state if the "ultra" settings for lighting or shadows or whatever include gameworks features

Bethseda's typical 'gfx options' format isn't the most hardest to fake.

Imagine if there are any, they'll cary the GW's stamp next to them.

They're fake. In their haste and excitement they forgot to actually add in the graphics adapter, even though they had listed it.

That's a real Fallout 3 settings menu. Note - Resolution, not Resolutions and where is the graphics adapter?

I'm calling Jekyl and Hyde.

To create that volumetric light spilling across the scene (sometimes called “god rays”) we worked with our friends at NVIDIA, who’ve we worked with dating back to Morrowind’s cutting-edge water. The technique used here runs on the GPU and leverages hardware tessellation.

GodRays is a listed GameWorks library, so sounds like they've used at least that and HBAO+

Does make you wonder if all they did was to tweak the existing FO3 engine and add a few nVidia effects...

Doesn't matter to me tbh, I'm just hoping the gameplay is spot on

God rays are not an exclusive Nvidia technology at all.

HBAO+ has also not been mentioned anywhere. In fact, their recent graphics article specifically mentions screen space ambient occlusion, which would suggest they dont have HBAO, much less HBAO+ officially incorporated at all(though hopefully somebody will figure out to get it in).

None of these things are Nvidia effects.

No, "god rays" in games are not unique to nvidia, however when Bethesda say they worked with NVIDIA to implement god rays using tesseleation, they ARE saying they used Nvidia Gameworks GodRays, not just "god rays"

If Nvidia already have a gameworks library that does god rays, why would they help Bethesda implement something else?

They also mention they worked with Nvidia on the water for Morrowind, which wasn't an Nvidia-specific technology. I'm pretty sure if they were just using the general Gameworks god rays technology, they'd have to say that(as Nvidia are very picky about requiring their specific technologies to be acknowledged as so). It sounds like it was an actual collaboration to create a specific god ray implementation perhaps *based off* Nvidia's technology, but isn't a straight sort of plug-in type effect.

I could be wrong, of course. We'll see.

It would be a shame if that's the extent of graphics tech they got from Nvidia though, if it was a proper Gameworks implementation. HBAO+ would be a far more important inclusion, if you ask me.
