Fallout 4 to feature Nvidia Gameworks

Good stuff, I'll wait until it shifts out of beta though so it doesn't balls up my mods :)

An update on the Wccf article says the debris will be using flex.

Loving the added debris :D

(sorry Sam) :p

If you shoot long enough, does the pile of debris become bigger than the building?

The effect looks "ok" but it's not a game changer imho. If the building took that physical damage - ie the debris wasn't just "generated" but parts of the structurs - then it'd be something ;)

Yay for Nvidia only effect, lol that it's incredibly unrealistic again. Randomly generated particles flying out of walls leaving a flat 'damage' texture but no actual damage with a lot of the particles disappearing instantly.

See this is less immersive IMHO, generating particles out of 'damage' that doesn't show as real damage.

Is it basically a decade now where Nvidia promised(using someone else's tech) more REALISTIC effects, and the realism is why the performance cost. How is it a decade later the realism is no where to be seen still, every implementation is some unrealistic graphics addition. Also quite funny how many games are having an Nvidia effect added way down the line, Black Flag got smoke added well after release, that smoke was unrealistic also. One shot from a ickle hand gun and half the screen full of smoke, smoke which didn't look particularly good(nor bad).

This is really old school level bad quality bullet/damage effect, layered on top which as above reduces realism IMHO. If you can't do something well don't do it, it sticks out less. The massive 'damage' size on the small barrel yet it doesn't move at all nor dent or deform in shape, it just sticks out.

Nothing looks realistic yet in any game, especially fallout 4.

The effects are there for all to see ( except amd users which is a shame for them ) and i quite like the extra "realism"

I doubt you would be disgruntled if this was an amd exclusive.

More likely you only like it because it's nVidia? It's a ... well, it's an effect. I can see it having usefulness in combination with other effects - possibly in a game not as visually impaired as Fallout 4 - but as it stands it's pretty naff and doesn't really fit.

I actually think it looks pretty good, gimmicky but none the less a cool effect, it is certainly much better than all the other useless gameworks effects anyway (hairworks and volumetric smoke [not the smoke itself but how it interacts with objects/people] aside)

Question though, I thought these effects were suppose to be so easy and quick for developers to implement so why is this only getting these features now? 2+ months later....

Nope!

+1

Of course it's gimmicky, it may well get me to start another new game though after I have cleared it for the 3rd ending :)

I cannot see how Amd can't do this also except because of gameworks.

TBH,I don't see how its really that a brilliant effect and I already have 200 hrs in Fallout 4 myself. Its like the BL2 fluid effects too.

The Hairworks and TressFX effects I do like, and wouldn't mind if they could add that to characters like Dogmeat with the same slider they have in W3 now,to vary the intensity dependent on the hardware you have.

You will be pleased to know that it won't run on your AMD hardware, so you don't have to look at it. Some, like me quite like it though and it is a free update for Nvidia users and I always like free :D

@ others, it is a shame it doesn't run on AMD as it is a pretty cool effect and proprietary is a bit of a thorn in the side of gaming.

Done my update, at least I think I did it correctly ? Was 95MB and it now states my game is no longer called Fallout 4 but Fallout 4 (beta) is this correct ?

It is in a way like the BL2 physx stuff, you won't miss it if you don't use it (put over 200 hours on BL2 with AMD cards) but you'll notice it once its around for a while and grow fond of it (another 150 hours with nvidia cards). That being said you don't have time to notice it when you're busy shooting stuff :)

I'll try this flex update once its out of beta, got mods just perfect for me atm and don't want to ruin them.

A little work FO4 is a really nice game...

Ultra/highest with godrays on low with FXAA, 1440, stock 980Ti, it averages around 80fps with a texture pack, blood and weather mods added in.
