Fallout: New Vegas

Has anyone got any other suggestions to help me play lag-free?

Have you tried disabling some of the mods 1 at a time to try and identify if there is one in particular causing most of your issues? (Seems the ENB series ones are often being complained about - actually, from memory I recall someone in this thread saying that there is an in-game option you need to disable and then re-enable with ENB to get something to work)

Now I am off I'd thought I'd give this some serious thought (again!).

Thanks for suggestion, I think I have found the culprit:
It seems when I disable the ENB mod the FPS jumps straight to 60fps and is smooth and very playable.

I will have a read and a tinker around.

I can't get this to work for more than 30 minutes at a time without it crashing. I keep getting 'FalloutNV is not responding' or on the odd occasion a Run time error. I've tried a few things like integrity verify on steam and adding some commands to reduce the amount of cores being used in the .ini files. I've searched across the net but haven't found any fixes. I don't have any mods installed

If I recall correctly FONV has a pre-game launcher app that lets you alter settings. I had a similar problem to what youve have detailed and it was fixed by altering the lighting. It was something to do with HDR or BLOOM?, by dropping it down to a less eye candy setting I could play for hours at a time.

Although it isn't exactly a taxing game, I found FO:NV to be incredibly sensitive to the overclock on my CPU. Even though the CPU will pass all stress tests at 4.2Ghz, I had to drop it down to 4.0Ghz for stability with New Vegas. I think the gamebyro engine is just very sensitive.

Try dropping down to stock to see if it helps (assuming you're overclocking your CPU of course, and if you aren't, then what are you doing on these forums?! :p)

Ye I wouldn't know the first thing about overclocking so I'm running a i5 760 at stock speeds.

For someone modding this for the first time, what would you recommend? I understand that there's a ton of available mods, but I have no idea where to start.

You don't need much at all.

NVEC complete
Project beauty
Project nevada
Project reality.
A world of pain
Either wme or wmx for weapons mods.
NMC texture pack... In fact just get all the texture packs, they are all pretty good.

Just these plus compatibility patches for them and the game is incredible!

Pretty sure I Linked them all a page or two back.

Any explanation for this? I'm on about the trees in the background. Why do they look so weird and grainy? It does look worse in game as well.

EDIT: Turning off transparency multisampling seemed to fix it.

just wanted to say i have only just started playing fallout NV recently after first finishing fallout 3 earlier last year

its a series i never really knew about and just passed by thinking it was just a normal genric cod game or something. After 3 i was hooked. Got NV ultimate in the last sale it was on and am racking up too many hours!

steam sync takes about 10 mins now and im 106hours in
only on my second DLC pack and have no idea how much of the main story i have done!

these are my favourite ever games, cant believe i only discovered them so recently!

its probably going to be a 200hr game for my first play through

After beating Silus up during the interrogation at Camp McCarrann:

Silus: You hit like a bedridden old woman.

Courier: Lucky you. You can borrow my dentures when I knock all your teeth out.

:D

In this Order-

Textures

Ewi's Big Texture pack- Comprehensive and very high quality
Poco Bueno
NMC's (washed out wasteland is good)
Vurt's Flora overhaul
Improved LOD noise texture
MG Neat Clutter
AmidianBorn stuff
Weapon Retexture Project
High Res Chems

Characters-
Fallout Character Overahul- Top quality NPC appearance improvement as well as loads of extra options for character creation. Can't emphasis how good this is!
There are also male and female body replacers if you like.
If you are seeing neckseams, try this- http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/56198/?

Lighting-
If you want improved weather as well as improved lighting, go for either Nevada Skies or Project Reality. NS is more stable imo, but still had it's problems for me. Project Reality is higher quality, but has some bugs and poor performance.

I simply use FNV Realistic Wasteland Lighting, which does not add weather, but changes the entire look of the game and is very good imo.

Then install:
Interior Lighting Overhaul - Really makes a difference.
Electro City- Adds lights around the Wasteland
Mojave Nights- High-res night sky
Imaginator- lets you control many aspects of the graphics

Then either add an ENB(which I haven't found a decent on tbh) or Sweetfx which I do use, and recommend...I find you can get the same results as an ENB by using Imaginator + Sweetfx.

You can also use the NV configurator, which lets you edit the INI easily and is a very handy tool.

All very easy to install through Nexus Mod Manager. The game looks really good with all these...not surprisingly, I am playing it atm;)

No worries.

It is worth saying though, that I would be using Nevada Skies for weather/lighting if I could get it to work properly. As it was though, I was getting a lot of broken sky, weather not loading etc. Realistic lighting is very good, but I do miss a bit of the extra weather such as the storms from Nevada Skies, which were awesome....also, tbh the lighting is just a little off with NSkies imo.

You can get the game looking a LOT better than this with ENB, but you will be sacrificing performance, and it seems to be a lot more buggy than, for example, Skyrim where ENBs are concerned
