FAO Fox

well I'm afraid he was risking his license trying and failing, I was actually surprised but a look at the power to weight ratio of them made it obvious why, they are damn heavy

They weigh about 1300kg and even the conservative BMW 0-60 time is 5.9 seconds for the older one, the newer Si model is even quicker. There isn't a hope in hell that a VW Polo, no matter how many leet remapz it has done, would be capable of 'embarrasing' one of these if the driver of it had some clue and wanted to play ball. Sorry to crush your dreams.

The interior build quality is quite a bit off the mark compared the other cars in the range. Probably a mixture of trying to keep the weight and cost down whilst being screwed together in America.

I think they've made a few improvements as yours felt better as does the new roadsters in my local dealer, but its little things like the area under the handbrake etc which feel a bit cheap.

lets take the 2005 3.0si manual for an example:

1385kg
261bhp
188.45bhp/tonne

My polo, conservative weight estimate

1140kg
220bhp
193bhp/tonne

You do the math. I didn't say I was embarassing the car, I said I was embarassing the driver, mainly as he would most likely have the same deluded thought path as yourself and think omgz I can't gain any ground on this little polo, which has no hope in hell of doing this to my amazing b33/V\3r

You also neglected to mention that your Polo is an FWD scrabblewagon and isn't going to be doing clean launches to 60 in less than 6 seconds.

A whole 5/bhp a tonne difference is far from enough to embarras anyone - especially when you consider aerodynamic properties (Your Polo is a shopping car for women to go to Tesco) and gearing.

You don't do a "launch" on the dual carriageway, so that is irrelevant in the context of my post. 5bhp/tonne is enough for them not to be able to gain any ground/lose ground on you at the speeds of road racing (60-illegal)

I guess women shoppers must like going faster than hair dressers :)

If you are talking about dual carriageways you need massive power differentials to show somebody up and vanish into the distance. This is why you get chavs in 106 GTi's thinking they can keep up with Audi S3's. Because the S3 doesn't vanish into the distance they think they've done well.

I'm so busy trying to comprehend why somebody would spend a 5 figure sum on a VW Polo and then destroy the only reason for buying nearly new - the warranty - my brain can't process a comeback :p

which is why I mentioned not gaining any ground/losing some ground rather than saying yea I pwned him so bad, he ate my dust

because most dealerships don't test ecu's for remaps when cars are in for warranty claims, I know countless people who have had warranty work done while remapped and subtely modified, including myself

Go and race an M3, I doubt that'd gain THAT much ground either on a leet streeracin dual carriageway sprintzot but you are not about to say you embarrased that, are you?

Surely they'll notice you upgraded brakes, or did you not bother?

I'm sure it would

The standard 288 mm ventilated discs combined with ferodo pads have ample stopping power and heat dissipation, I may upgrade them at some stage for the pedal feel though

Ans then you come to a corner where even a 2.0i Z4 would whizz all over you.

He's significantly increased the power output. I'm happy to take the chance and go on assumption ;)

well emlyn actually has been in my car, so knows first hand 1. it's fast 2. it stops fast

Polo's weight of 1145kg is given without driver. Even if you are a rather thin little chap, your Polo weighs over 1200kg.

As stock, this gives it a power to weight ratio of 122bhp/tonne. We'll take your amazing leet tuned figures (Where did these come from? Guesswork? The tuners own RR?) and we get 180bhp/tonne.

Whats even more amusing though is that this is a fairly pointless but at least vaguely interesting thread about the Z4 and what people think. Yet still in you come to try and convince a forum full of people who simply don't care how amazing your shopping trolley is. Are you trying to convince us, or yourself?
