LOL who cares about these convertibles my Polo is like almost as fast1111

yeh but its cos your convertible hasn't got any 1337 mods. innit blud!

Intrigued about a 220bhp Polo I had a little read. Jeremy Clarkson's comments are interesting.

This comes with a 148bhp version of the turbocharged 1.8 litre 20-valve engine that produced 237bhp in the old Audi TT. So why not simply change the map and, hey presto, you have a 237bhp Polo. Wow. With something like that, you could bend time.

Hmm. I advise caution, because while the engine is certainly strong enough to handle 237bhp, the car isn’t; something you will discover about half a second before you hit the tree.

If Volkswagen thought that the Polo could handle 237bhp, then it would have 237bhp. They’ve decided that 148bhp is about right, and I agree.

Wheres that damn popcorn smiley?!

This needs to be added to the forum, sharpish.

haha, awesome. Now thats settled can we go back to discussing Sports cars whilst Toker goes to Tesco or something? :p

I do love the way his first paragraph pretty much sums up Tokers attitude towards his amazing Polo of extreme justice.

Polo's weight of 1145kg is given without driver. Even if you are a rather thin little chap, your Polo weighs over 1200kg.

As stock, this gives it a power to weight ratio of 125bhp/tonne. We'll take your amazing leet tuned figures (Where did these come from? Guesswork? The tuners own RR?) and we get 183bhp/tonne.

then you take off some for shortened high tensile springs, removal of egr valve and all attached junk, lighter exhaust system, smaller CAT...granted it wouldn't take off 60kg if it was 1200kg, but it all adds up to a significant reduction.

The figures are from comparing to other polo owners with the exact same modifications as me and countless RR runs they have done, although my map is more aggressive than theres so I most likely have a higher peak bhp, but am not going to make up a figure for that. Not RRing mine til I've finished changing a couple more things.

Anyway it's been fun, time to go enjoy a free lunch at some fancy hotel, woohoo

So you've no idea how much power it puts out, you've no idea out how much it weighs and Clarkson thinks it handles like a newborn deer. I'm glad we've finally got this clarified, lets talk about nicely handling sports cars again now :)

Is that in the same price bracket as the Z4? Same performance as well?

The SLK is a little more expensive but has a folding metal hardtop and IMHO is a better built, better quality car. It doesn't handle as well but it is broadly as quick - the SLK350 is particularly fast.

Cool, Thanks! :) - I do have a soft spot for Mercs...although there are some which are just horrid to look at! :p

There's a 2.8 with 230bhp 0-60 in 6 seconds for £30,000 new I think?

Or a 3.5, 280bhp, 0-60 in 5.5 seconds for a tad more.

Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Should be about the same as the Z4, if not then Fox will probably fill you in :)
