FarCry Artifacts...

Guess what?

Ive just installed FarCry and get the exact same thing.

Just waiting for 1.4 patch to download. Its deffo not my gfx card as it runs perfect in everything else imcluding the deep freeze test. I have a 7900GS

1.4 has a bug with mouse movement, you can sort it though I think. Search for it in the PC games section.

Well ive just installed the 1.4 patch and it is now perfect. :)

Hmm I have the v1.3 patch I'll update to the 1.4 patch.

Really it must be because FarCry is a couple of years old and at the time the latest cards now weren't there back a couple of years ago so I think I'll try the same with GRAW where it keeps re-booting my pc when I go to start a new game. I like GRAW but never could really play it that great had it all on low and it wasn't really that amazing.

Anyway cheers for the help to everyone.

Funny - was just wondering about this myself today. Installed the FarCry demo a few weeks ago when I built this system and was considering posting a thread about it.

As I only have the demo I'll just live with it - I'm guessing the 1.4 patch is the solution and I'm not too bothered about FarCry at any rate. Just wanted to know my card wasn't borked ;)

edit: I would assume from the changelog that this is the bug:

Non NV40 nVdia graphics cards display a water reflection bug when water details are set to 'Ultra High.' Lowering this setting in game will fix the problem

is that 1.4 patch 32bit only or will it work on x64?

Well just went onto the Ubi site to download the new officail 1.4 patch and seen this on the first line:

Patch 1.4 change log

* This patch supports 32 bit only.

So not sure what your supposed to do if you have the 64bit patch installed

Also anyone know if this new patch allows HDR+AA with ATI cards now like the old unofficial leaked 1.4 patch did??
Its not in the change log but I really hope it does. The old leaked patch was too buggy but I really want to enjoy Far Cry with HDR+AA on my X1800.

64bit stuff has much better texturing & detailed draw distance

Yeah, and I'm sure grass looked much better but last time I played Far Cry was on an X850XTPE which doesn't have SM3, so I guess that could be it

There was strange problems a couple of Years back, some patches caused more problems than they fixed, I cannot remember now exactly the score !!

As someone suggested uninstall the game and with a clean install add patches only if You need them

Macabre, are you still using the same drivers? Try using the latest official drivers from the NV website, or even some older drivers.

Far Cry 1.3 worked fine on my 6800Ultra and 7800GS (with the right drivers).

Patch 1.2 caused lots of problems, and was officially withdrawn.

i still can;t get hdr working on farcry with this card. gives some wierd error in the console when i try to enable hdr: r/hdrrendering = 7 (dump to disk)
??? whats all that about? could require a reinstall im guessing. may try it on the weekend.

I failed on that one also :D , Please let us know if You get in running

I use \r_hdrrendering 7 and \r_fsaa 4 which gives me HDR+AA goodness. For those who can't get it to work are you sure your typing the commands correctly, as the above commands should work perfect with any x1 series card and farcry patched to 1.4 (beta or final).

Thanks for that, It must have been a Year back and I tried with some grubby hacked patch I picked up somewhere.. ;)

Do You need to enter those commands evertime You play ? or can they be added to a config file or suchlike

I must Play that game again as I now have the hardware to run it properly

Found some of the Old stuff I tried it was a pre release beta here are the commands they used (which did not work for me )
To enable HDR and AntiAiasing:

1) Copy/overwrite the files to your existing Farcry game.
2) Start the game and Select your desired FSAA mode (2-4-6) in the Farcry video menu.
3) Go to the console (~) and ...

type \r_FSAA 2 now press Enter.
type \r_HDRRendering 1-11 ("7" looks best, "2" is also nice and has better performance) again press Enter, exit the console (~) and enjoy.
Tip: for best performance in outside levels, don't change your "e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio" value, leave it at default = "1.000000"

Looks about the same as Yours maybe 1.4 and re patch will do the trick

The old leaked beta 1.4 patch supported HDR+AA with Ati cards but was buggy as hell. According to some reports on the Ubi forums the HDR+AA support was scrapped from the new offical patch as it was too buggy, so that could be why your having problems.
It aint listed in the release notes to support it, so it doesn't look good. Reinstalling Far Cry on my Pc in the next day or so so will have to have a play and see it I can get it working on mine.
