I was looking around to find the cheapest seller of this game and found Farm Expert 2017, as far as I can see it is very similar
God no! It's a bug-ridden mess. It was a tiny team (I've got 5 or 3 in my head?) which lost one of those members before the game was even released.
On the other hand Farming Simulator has a team of 30+ developers and artists, will have a turnover of millions and while it's not without bugs at the moment (most have been ironed out), it's in a different league to Farm Expert.
Why not try either for a short time and get a Steam refund if they're not to your liking?
I never really got on with either. I am currently playing on a westbridge Hills conversion.
I am so disapointed with the Goldcrest valley map. Just seems no thought or effort was put into it. That road that runs through it is just a waste of space...
I'm the same. Bjornholm was far, far better than Goldcrest Valley and Sosnovka.
Fair enough on Coldborough - not everyone likes the extra work that a small British map entails.
However it is pretty obvious now that they are relying on Mods to beef up the PC game as the base seems to be devoid of anything that can not be run on the consoles.
However I am finding that new mods are not coming along as fast as they did when FS 15 was launched... I asked the author of the Hirabletools mod (allows for AI to skip a headland so you can have 3 AI working in one field doing the same thing) and he replied that Giants had revised the code so much he has not got time to convert it..
Hireable Tools was never officially released on FS15. There was a dodgy conversion (which seemed to work OK) but not by original author.
The problem now is that Giants' models are so good that modders can't keep up, unlike FS13 and earlier. To be fair, equipment wise most of what we need is there - all the big brands we know in Britain bar Claas (who are in Cattle and Crops) and John Deere (who will never give rights to any game other than their own).
There's plenty of mods in development - check out the epic-looking
Seasons mod WIP on FS-UK for example. We'll get good mods, and the situation is much better than FS15 as most of the script documentation was released with the game, but it takes time to make a good mod from scratch - even at this stage in FS15's life we were mostly getting FS13 converts.
I myself am trying to make a 4K map right now, but it's taken me a fortnight just to paint the terrain using Ordnance Survey maps as the DEM sources weren't accurate enough. There's not even any roads yet or models yet. Good things come to those who wait.
