Farming Simulator 17

Another minor issue discovered last night.

Was attempting to get all the "golden nuggets" - one of which is on the roof of a building. No matter what I tried, I couldn't climb the building using conventional means (and neither could the person who has made a youtube guide to them). However, I "leased" a Telehandler, fully extended it nearly reached the roof, and was able to jump across.

So this is the first FS I have been playing as intended. Have turned off plowing as I find it Tedious. Is weeding actually necessary? Haven't found a need yet.

Got 3 fields in rotation and am mowing with a Forage wagon, as well as foraging the chaff from harvesting wheat, and selling this in-between harvests and missions.

Making a tidy amount. Going to try not to Mod the xml file and cheat !

Weeding just adds a fertilisation stage (or does the fertilising if you have it set to just use 1).

If you do it immediately after sowing you'll have to do it yourself, but it's intended to be used once the crops have started growing, at which point you can use a hired helper.[/QUOTE]

I too am playing it as it is without cheating - it's a good way to learn the new features before the decent maps are released, and before I start attempting my own map. Neither map are a patch on Bjornholm though.

Can retail activations be installed to more than one computer?

Thanks.

I did it on FS15 so I could use it downstairs as well as up and it worked fine. I occasionally had to reinstall a couple of DLCs with their serial numbers, but it all worked fine and didn't flag up as dodgy.

It was only ever open on one PC at any given time, so I've no idea if Giants have a means of tracking that and multiplayer between them almost certainly won't work for obvious reason.

I haven't tried it on FS17 though - that 2nd PC is long gone.

The brilliant Coldborough Park Farm, with a few upgrades over the FS15 version, is now available from the in-game ModHub. Chellington (the smaller original version) was released a couple of weeks back.

I loved Coldborough on 15. The only problem is I never knew what to do. I just farm, harvest wheat and sell that and cut grass..

I never really got on with either. I am currently playing on a westbridge Hills conversion.

I am so disapointed with the Goldcrest valley map. Just seems no thought or effort was put into it. That road that runs through it is just a waste of space...

However it is pretty obvious now that they are relying on Mods to beef up the PC game as the base seems to be devoid of anything that can not be run on the consoles.

However I am finding that new mods are not coming along as fast as they did when FS 15 was launched... I asked the author of the Hirabletools mod (allows for AI to skip a headland so you can have 3 AI working in one field doing the same thing) and he replied that Giants had revised the code so much he has not got time to convert it.. :(

I was looking around to find the cheapest seller of this game and found Farm Expert 2017, as far as I can see it is very similar

God no! It's a bug-ridden mess. It was a tiny team (I've got 5 or 3 in my head?) which lost one of those members before the game was even released.

On the other hand Farming Simulator has a team of 30+ developers and artists, will have a turnover of millions and while it's not without bugs at the moment (most have been ironed out), it's in a different league to Farm Expert.

Why not try either for a short time and get a Steam refund if they're not to your liking?

I'm the same. Bjornholm was far, far better than Goldcrest Valley and Sosnovka.

Fair enough on Coldborough - not everyone likes the extra work that a small British map entails.

Hireable Tools was never officially released on FS15. There was a dodgy conversion (which seemed to work OK) but not by original author.

The problem now is that Giants' models are so good that modders can't keep up, unlike FS13 and earlier. To be fair, equipment wise most of what we need is there - all the big brands we know in Britain bar Claas (who are in Cattle and Crops) and John Deere (who will never give rights to any game other than their own).

There's plenty of mods in development - check out the epic-looking Seasons mod WIP on FS-UK for example. We'll get good mods, and the situation is much better than FS15 as most of the script documentation was released with the game, but it takes time to make a good mod from scratch - even at this stage in FS15's life we were mostly getting FS13 converts.

I myself am trying to make a 4K map right now, but it's taken me a fortnight just to paint the terrain using Ordnance Survey maps as the DEM sources weren't accurate enough. There's not even any roads yet or models yet. Good things come to those who wait. :)

I really dont understand why but I keep getting the urge to buy this when I read or watch about it. I mean, I really shouldnt, a farming simulator really really shouldnt interest me in the slightest, yet I keep finding my finger hovering over the buy button. So far Ive resisted that final button press :)

As I said in the last post, just set aside an hour or two and try it via Steam. If it's not to your liking just do the refund (is it 2 hours from purchase you've got to request the refund?).

I really want to see an official release of Courseplay and Auto-combine.

Also looking out for the bm-modding Krone Ultima Baler for making silage.

I downloaded the "All fruits" Silo which is great for cattle , as you can fill a trailer from it of TMR / Silage / Straw etc , I just keep a few of the lower cost trailers by it and shuttle them back and forth to feed the animals, beats mixing bales in the feeders manually!

I believe Courseplay is in development but the author of Auto-combine has already said we won't be getting it as the code has changed so much. I read there is apparently a different mod in a pre-alpha stage (in that it barely works at the moment) that is aiming to replace the Auto Combine headland mode, so it will be interesting to see how that develops.

To be honest I stopped using Auto Combine after a while and found it just as easy teaching the AI the optimal direction to start cutting (Compass mod helped) and then tidying up afterwards. Auto Combine was just too slow at turning, though it was good at headlands.

Headlands is all I really needed it for to be honest, on maps like Chellington, so I could set them running and go off to do something else.

My essential mods at the moment have got to be the "Buy any fruit silo" which I placed near the cow shed , another near the pig pen , and allows me to buy Straw/Pig Feed/TMR/Grass etc... And also the "Universal Tanks" mod for bigger water tanks.

Still take the time to do the crops , but definitely have to focus on the Cows a lot, quite time consuming when you have 120+

Anyone else got an essential mod list?

Hi - has anyone got this to run steady over 60fps ? I've got sli 980ti with 5930K and a 165hz g-sync monitor but I get constant fluctuation between 20-60 fps. I've turned v sync off in game, and edited the game file to remove the 60fps cap but still no joy. when I press f3 to deactivate the fps limit, I hit over 100 fps but only for a couple of seconds then it crashes back to 20-60 ?? tried with sli turned off as well......

thanks.

I had not removed the cap, edited the config.xml to increase draw distance to 4 (which is pretty much the map) and never dropped below 60, even with a bucket full of mods. I am running 980ti @1450. however all that is at 1080p

I am guessing you are at 4K???

using a 2k monitor - think I might have to go for a clean install on the game and move my mods to separate folder and load them in one at a time to see what happens. did you pick up a load of malware when downloading the mods ??

thx
