Fastest speed

I got to the far side of 1.0 speed units in my 106 GTi the other day, down the local dead-straight-see-for-half-a-mile-with-no-junctions road. It's a fairly bumpy road though, and the ride on the car is quite hard. With the windows down, it felt like the world was about to end quite frankly!

My old Cavalier saw 1.2 or 1.3 speed units once or twice. Got from Falmouth to Bedford in a smidgen over 4 1/4 hours one NYE....Felt comfortable and stable on the motorway at such a speed.

70mph in a corsa would feel terribly unsafe and fast though.

I did my Test in a Suzuki Ignes and as soon as i reached 62mph i felt like the car was going to fall over

Come on Zip - my Seicento has no a/r bars in the suspension and I still feel quite comfortable ragging the living hell out of it. Fiat quote a top speed of less than 90mph for the SX (84mph I believe is the factory figure), and I've seen the happy side of 100 out of it with very little in the way of drama*.

*Depends on what you count as drama - was a bit interesting when I got on the anchors and the rear end decided to get slightly floaty

When you have big Commodores and falcons flying past you it doesn't help the nerves when your in a match box car :p

And i just found the Suzuki Ignis was scary to drive at 100kph :o

what size engine did it have?

a 1.4+ corsa or any small car imo is going to be fine at 80+

It had a 1.2 or less i think and very floaty steering.
The engine bay was small enough so i couldnt even see it when i was in the car

you shouldnt be able to see the bonnet from inside the car on pretty much any car

ive never been in a tiny engined car at 80 (1.0,1.1,1.2) etc, would quite like to see what its like

Probably a year or 2 older then that one though. The sway it has is scary
Its also much smaller in real life then that picture shows

they dont look too bad :p

ive driven a few but i thought they were designed so you couldnt see the bonnet while sitting inside? the only car on which i have been able to is the skoda superb

Trust me they are, Very soft suspension and the boat all over the place.
The dont feel one bit stable and you feel like they are going to fall over because the way the roof is high compared to the rest of the car.
And with the Giant cars that are on the roads down here you feel like you are going to be squished by them :p

Driver - 97mph on my Fiesta speedo. (handbook says top speed is only 94 though? - I was going downhill)

Passenger (ish) ~120mph, vertically DOWN. I don't have/not allowed a GPS to get exact speed yet but I'm sure Freefaller will agree its about the most fun 120mph! :D

Well im sure Gurdas it was at a time that was unsafe to do 155mph .

Also were you not racing someone as well? The fact remains you got flamed for 5 + pages if i remember (or yer dad did )
There is nothing wrong with speeding ... Its where and how you speed thats unsafe :)

How the hell do you know if it was unsafe? Stop making up statements to justify your comments.

It was perfectly safe at the time otherwise he wouldn't have been reaching those speeds, my old man was driving cars when you were still wearing nappies so no need to go on about when it's safe to speed. Also fact remains that motors members like jumping on bandwagons, even if they are wrong, so your point is irrelevant.

There was no racing, we him the limiter and backed off and a tuned cosworth went passed.

Oh please!!! There just happened to be a tuned Cossie passing as you hit the limiter? yeah right .

And so yer old man is older than me...so what!! Has he ridden bikes for 20 years? No .. Has he raced .. i doubt it ... does he do track days ...doubt it .. does he do 30k+miles a year ? probably not ... Shall i go on? Bit of new money with a flash car ..

And you brought this up btw... I dont see what yer problem is ...so i speed ...so what ..who cares!! But as i mentioned before its not speed its where and how .

And for the other poster asking where the Barton cutting is ...Its on the A6 out of luton towards bedford that passes Barton le Clay ..Map here

It starts at the roundabout and ends near the bottom of the arrow .

i too dont quiet understand why people say it isnt safe to "speed" if the road (motorway) is clear. in that case the only person you are putting at risk is yourself..

on a busy motorway, doing 100 while everyone else is doing 70 is just stupid, someone is bound to misjudge your speed and pull infront of you to overtake, in mear milliseconds you could have a closed motorway in your hands.......

kinda like that video where a bike is doing 280k (i think?) hes going along, and the video is too bad quality, but probably half a mile up the road someone pulls out doing 100k to overtake someone. The bike was probably on max brakes all the way to the guys back bumper where he only just missed...

stop going into one about a simple disagreement.

Who cares if you apparently drive 30k, and have so much more experience than the other guy....why do you need to go one further? My dad does this, my dad does that, etc.....get over it.

Well since i never started this and i get comments like " my old man was driving cars when you were still wearing nappies " do you expect me to leave it ?
And funnily enough so were you Gurdas when i was driving :p
Also i dont apparently drive 30k+ I DO drive it ... Atm my 03 Zafira has 127k on the clock!!
