Faulty Palit GTX 1070?

From reading how you have reacted throughout this thread I'm honestly a bit confused at some of your responses, always going against the grain. Do you work for Overclockers?

No, I do not have anything to do with Overclockers, apart from being an occasional customer.

I don't think my comments are confusing. I`ve simply tried to give a reasonable opinion on this matter.

The OP has received a faulty item, and has had it replaced within about a week. Maybe he and others may disagree, but I think that's fairly decent customer service. The replacement card may have been returned by another customer (although it may have been opened to test it). I have suggested that as long as the replacement card works properly and is in perfect condition (not damaged or marked in any way), then the OP is no worse off than if he'd received an unopened card.

So sometimes your employer gives a 5-10% on pretty expensive items that have been opened, but you would demand a brand new item and postage costs.

I'm assuming that you class a graphics card as "pretty expensive". If so, you are being unreasonable.

Only because thats what my employer does doesn't mean if accept it its happened to me I got given an item that had previously been opened and refused to accept the item.

He's clearly sympathetic of retailers and their small profit margins. ;)

You weren't privy to the conversation I had with a certain uncouth representative, but he flatly denied the option of exchanging the card for a different model. Incidentally, they arranged collection at the wrong address, and then proceeded to send a replacement which had clearly been opened.

A refund was out of the question, because I paid for the item on credit, and had already begun to pay off the balance. It would have been a long-winded affair, and I would have been without a GPU for the duration.

It's not entirely OcUK's fault, but if they permitted me to pay the difference for a different model, I would have received a more reliable card, resulting in a positive outcome in this thread.

Have you tried the DVI and display ports? It's quite worrying how many Palits have failed.

I tried just about every fix i could find, tried in two systems etc. Display port was the only one i didnt check, as i dont have a DP monitor.

The place i got it from tested it today and found it faulty so im getting a full refund.

Im probably staying away from Palit now. This was the first time i actually got a decent card that was released recently, so there wasnt much to read online regarding reviews etc, and they hadnt been out long so no one knows how well they last.

I actually even started to like the way my Gamerock looked, and of course the price, so im hoping something will be fixed on these cards soon so i can get another. Im getting impatient though, my 660 just isnt cutting it now ive played on a 1070 for a day.

Theres a huge thread on a Singapore forum of people having problems with Palit 1070s. One guy even posted on the first page saying he'd just installed his and was worried seeing others posts, then a few pages later he was posting how his had stopped working lol.

How soon are the Palit 1070's failing? Is it after a few hours, a day or two or after a week or two?

A refund was not out of the question, it's your legal right, and you could have used that legal right.

Although OCUK wouldn't let you pay the difference for a different model, you could have requested a full refund and then ordered a different model (from a different retailer if you weren't happy with OCUK). And how do you know for sure that the "different" card would be more reliable ?

I had a similar experience with another online retailer when I received a faulty TV. They wouldn't simply replace it, they insisted on giving me a refund. They suggested that if I wanted to try another one, I should order another one, which I did. I found that a bit strange, but I did what they suggested.

I suspect that the card you bought (in a sale) had a very small profit margin. It might have even been a loss leader.

At £359, it's probably the cheapest I`ve seen a GTX1070 being sold for so far.

Even at it's normal selling price, it's one of the cheapest GTX1070s available. It's not entirely suprising that it might not be as reliable as more expensive models.

Received my card. It was previously opened (static bag), but looked like it was to test it, which I don't mind, because it works now :) Just played some games there, very happy with the card, and the quick RMA.

It seems even your premium model is not exempt, according to numerous forums!

I'm pleased that you had a straight-forward experience. How does it perform on Fire Strike? I'd be interested to know.

Mine was after around 14 hours of first being turned on. Maybe 6-8 hours gaming.

Im going to go with OcUK this time and try either the Zotac Amp (not the extreme since its 6.4cm thick and i think it will cover all of my Sata ports lol)
or i might try the Evga 1070 SC

I've been using it solidly without incident. I'm currently running the card at stock, but it's relatively quiet and the temperature seldom exceeds 70 degrees under heavy load, even with the current weather. I've not taken the liberty of tweaking anything just yet.

Sounds good.

It would be interesting to know how well your card overclocks.

Mine runs at just over 2000/8500 without clocking. Can't push the GPU much higher than that, memory does 9200 no problem. Temps reach 70C max during gaming or benching, with very little fan noise. I`ve recently switched to the "B" BIOS which has lower boost clocks (just over 1800Mhz GPU) and a lower "idle" clock. The lower idle clock means that the fans never spin up during normal desktop use, which they do once in a while with the other BIOS. The lower boost clocks don't have any noticeable effect with the games I'm currently playing.
