Faulty Palit GTX 1070?

I'm forced to put up with it, sadly. I can't do without a GPU for another 5-10 working days.

I'd put bets on the card having come from someone jumping on the deal before they'd thought then having buyers remorse when they opened the box and realised they couldn't really afford it and returned it to OcUK heh.

And my replacement has been shipped. Very happy with the quick turn-around.

I'd be interested to hear if the seal on the box and anti-static bag has been opened. My GPU was collected Monday and the replacement was received this Friday. When did you RMA yours?

I doubt they'd openly admit they've sent me a replacement which was originally returned by another customer! :p

They may not.

Here's something to think about though.

Even if you`ve been sent a card that was returned by another customer, as long as it appears to be in brand new condition (no physical damage such as scratches etc) and it works properly, then you haven't got much to complain about really. You have a working card with a full 2 year guarantee. If the first card you were sent had worked properly, you now have had exactly the same thing installed in your PC - a working card from opened packaging !

The only thing I'd be concerned about is if you are looking to overclock the card. If your replacement card has a poor overclock, it could be that the card was returned for that reason (if indeed it is a returned card).

If that is the case, there's nothing to be concened about.

I would be mightily annoyed if I recieved an "opened" replacement that was faulty though. A bad review would be very much in order.

Have no idea if it is really the case but working in retail see it all the time - people can't resist a deal then reality catches up and they return them - most places I've worked just put them straight back into stock.

Bizarre. What kind of weird people purchases something they cannot afford to waste more money to ship it back...

Surprising number of people have buyer's remorse etc. after impulse purchasing something on a deal like that Palit 1070s were on and then once they have it in their hands it is like reality kicks in and they return it for a refund.

While I don't generally deal with customers directly spent about 10 years in total working in retail related jobs and you see some of the most bizarre things when it comes to people :S

I guess things can suddenly come up, car needs a visit to garage etc, dog is injured.

Obviously some people will complain about receiving an item that has already been opened, but it's understandable that online retailers might send out items that have been returned under DSR. They can hardly afford to scrap these items, or even sell them at a discount (unless there is a large enough profit margin on the item in the first place, or a very low number of returned items).

Just thought id share my Palit 1070 GameRock experience since im seeing a lot of dead Palits on forums.

Worked fine for about 14hours use, then i crashed and just got a black screen. Rebooted, black screen. Tried every fix i found online, black screen. Tried in another pc, black screen.

With the amount of posts ive seen of others having the same/similar problem, im going to stay away from palit. If so many are dying on day 1 i dont want to get another and hope it lasts longer.

Unfortunately i didnt purchase from OcUK. I always heard good things about Oc but i went with another company due to quite a large saving. Im now reading pretty bad reviews on the other companies RMA system, but fingers crossed i get my 400 quid back and i can look into a different brand 1070.

Have you tried the DVI and display ports? It's quite worrying how many Palits have failed.

Understandable but is it right? If I'm paying good money for a GC I expect it to be brand new. The last time I sold on ebay, even if something had been used for a day it has to be classed as used. So why can retailers send out DSR items that have been used as new items?

Currently someone could buy a GC, overclock the life out of it for 13 days then return it and it could be sold on as new I thihkn. I thought I read the rules were changing on this anyway?
I don't blame the online retailers but I don't like the DSR rules personally for these kind of goods. I think electronic goods should only be returnable if faulty, or if not, then a restocking fee charged that is then used to reduce the price of the item to a future buyer (as it's no longer new).

If you're buying a new sofa online then it's a bit more understandable because when it arrives it might just not match the room or whatever. BUt a GC is a GC although I suppose it could be deemed to be not as fast as expected but no different than buying in a shop on the street where DSR probably doesn't apply?

As I work in retail I see this all the time customers returning items that have been opened had the seal broken but want to return it under our 30 day money back guarantee with the policy being it's unused and in a resalable condition, on pretty expensive items if the seal is broken sometimes we can give a little discount 5-10% though with graphics cards, if I recieved a product that had been opened I would demand one that was new and get them to pay for the postage

So sometimes your employer gives a 5-10% on pretty expensive items that have been opened, but you would demand a brand new item and postage costs.

I'm assuming that you class a graphics card as "pretty expensive". If so, you are being unreasonable.

From reading how you have reacted throughout this thread I'm honestly a bit confused at some of your responses, always going against the grain. Do you work for Overclockers?
