Nothing beats the west country for ice cream :)

I can't stop making ice cream...

So far since I had the machine I have made

Plain Vanilla
Vanilla with Chocolate Chip
Vanilla with Mango
Cherry & Blueberry Frozen Yogurt
Mint Choc Chip
Peanut Butter (this is amazing)
Chunky Monkey - Banana ice cream with Dark chocolate and walnut
Strawberry with Meringue & chocolate chip

Next up, Banana & Cocoanut with dark chocolate bits!

When we went to Italy on holiday last year, there were "Blue Ice" shops all over Rome, delicious ice cream, especially English Trifle flavour

What machine did you buy :)?

Sorry if I missed it but have you experimented with different cream and yoghurt, e.g. full fat Jersey cream vs. bog standard Tesco stuff? If so have you noticed any difference in the quality of the ingredients vs. the quality of the end product?

I did for one batch and tbh, it is not noticible if at all. What makes the biggest difference is your ratio of cream:milk. Standard ratio is 2:1 and you can make it healthier by shifting the balance or using semi skimmed. The effect of that is you are introducing more water into the mix and thus more crystal so the end result is a harder ice cream, instead of a soft one. This is also a downside when using a fruit like strawberry, when mashed it there is a lot of water (fruit juice) so strawberry ice cream turned out slightly harder than banana (chunky monkey). I've been told this can be helped by cooking the strawberry in a pan and reducing it to a syrup first.

Oil356 - I got the Gaggia machine :)

Lol, no, at £200 a pop it is not cheap and it will take gallons and gallons of ice cream to break even. That's not the point of getting the machine though, I didn't get it to save money from buying Ben & Jerry's, I got it so I can make the flavours that I like but hard to buy (such as Green Tea) and a experiment my own flavours.

Great results.
Can I put a request in for sorbets RL?

Sure, I will look into that :p It shouldn't be that hard, its fruit + lemon (as a preservative) + sugar I am guessing.

I just made peanut butter ice cream at midnight lol Had half a jar of the stuff left from a few weeks ago sitting in the fridge, a tub of cream that will go out of date on Friday....what the heck. Now a pint of ice cream in the freezer that will last for ages :D

I threw in some left over walnut, some milk chocolate and a Cadbury's Flake for good measure lol

The last thing I need to buy is an ice cream machine, I really should stop coming to this thread.
I will end up just buying one because of all the posts you have made here raymond, pretty convincing arguements.
