Favourite ice cream

I think it can make 1Litre at a time, or 1.2L. But I am making 1 pint (568) size at the moment just because i want to try out as many flavours as I can. IT can certainly make enough to serve a dinner party of 4-6 from 1 batch. It takes only like half hour from turning it on to eating so it doesn't take long at all. Unlike some machines that can make 2L, they need to bowl to be chilled overnight so you can only use them once that 1 day. I can make litres of stuff continusously!

The cleaning part is also really easy as there is an removable inner bowl, which lifts out when you finish so just rinse it under the tap. To stop it sticking to the machine, pour in a shot of cheap alcohol of your choice, wipe dry when done for that day.

Made anything yet that rivals your favourite pre-made ice cream?

One of my favourite store bought ice cream is Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia Frozen Yogurt. I have to say mine is far smoother (even after 3 hours in the freezer to firm up), but I didn't add in dark chocolate though so its not 100% the same.

I am not a big fan of store bought vanilla ice cream mainly because of the fact that they do not taste of anything like vanilla. Mine is REALLY vanilla-ly. :D And soooooooooooo smooth. When it was turning in the machine, I tasted it, at the start it was a bit too sweet, so I just added more milk into it, it just turns into the mixture, blending it in perfectly and it came out amazing.

Totally agree with you on that. True vanilla ice cream is so nice and so different to shop brought stuff.

I might have to go put the maker in the freezer.
I hate this forum.

With every new post to this thread I come closer to buying one. :D

I do love ice cream, especially after my Saturday night curry, but I am not sure if I can justify one. Size is also a concern. I'll bung it on the Amazon wishlist.

Doooo it!

Don'y buy one thinking you will save money by making your own though. Forge the cost of the machine, that is almost irrelevant when you just think about the ingredients costs. For example today i decide to make Mint Choc Chip.

1 Pint of Milk 59p
500ml double cream 95p
3 packs of mint £1.50
Bar of 70% cocoa chocolate (Lindt) £1.80

That's £4.84 in ingredients to make 1Litre. It works out mathematically cheaper than buy at 500ml tubs for like £4 but I am not including the sugar and eggs that you need, also the electricity and effort.

However......apart from taste, this way you can control a lot of things.

You can make it healthier by using semi skimmed milk, low fat cream, sweeteners etc. Use proper ingredients like Mint and nice chocolates.

Buy one if you like great ice cream and like to know exactly what you are eating.

was that with fresh mint leaves? or mint extract
also when i have made truffles before, the asda/tesco 70% cocoa chocolate for around £1 is as good as Lindt.

just have to convince the missus, that the kids will love home made ice cream ;):D

edit. just googled raymonds machine, that is some serious investment

It was fresh mint, I found a recipe online earlier so I'd thought I'd give it a go.

The way to sell it to the wife is that it is better stuff for the kids than bought stuff, no perservatives, can be less sugar and lower fat. Trust me, make frozen yogurt and I swear your kids won't be able to tell it's not ice cream.

Mint Choc Chip!

I made the mint base last night using the regular vanilla base and instead of vanilla, used mint leafs. Then let it sit to infuse the mint flavour for an hour before bashing it with a potato masher and then strained the leafs out then cooled overnight.

Randomly layer it.
