I changed my SMS tomes using SSH. Sound located : /System/Library/Audio/UISounds

Changing SMS tone names:

  1. SSH into phone and navigate to root/private/var/stash/Applications/Preferences.app/English.lproj
  2. Copy the file "Sounds.strings" to your desktop
  3. Using this URL (http://iappcat.com/plist/bin2xml) convert the Strings file to XML and open with your favorite XML reader (I used wordpad on windows)
  4. You should see several strings with the names of the default iPhone SMS tones (Tri-Tone, Chime, Glass, etc.). These correspond to the sound files as follows:
Sms-received1.caf = Tri-Tone (Note that this name is further down under "Default" in the strings file)
    sms-received2.caf = Chime
    sms-received3.caf = Glass
    sms-received4.caf = Horn
    sms-received5.caf = Bell
    sms-received6.caf = Electronic
  5. Change the name for whichever file you replaced with your custom sound
  6. After backing up your original "Sounds.strings" file, rename your edited version "Sounds.strings" (CASE SENSITIVE) and copy back to phone.
  7. Respring and Enjoy.

Got to teh bolded point...using cyber duck, tho I can jsut copy the file, and when I saved the URL (connecting over WiFi...it seems to be the wrong format to convert it.

I'm working on an app for jailbroken devices (iphone 4 only), will submit to cydia when it is finished.
It replaces any low resolution (57x57px) app icons with high resolution ones (114x114) for the iphone 4's retina display by generating them from the app's embedded itunes artwork. No need for winterboard or any other addons, and because it runs 'on-demand' like a normal app it does not run in the background or use any resources at all.

thats brilliant, nice work let use know when its read to dl,

L33, good luck with that. Look forward to checking it out. Looks quality, and I love the fact that there is no mobile substrate running in the background either.

Going off-topic, do you have a link to that wallpaper please?

As my in my previous post ;)
/System/Library/Audio/UISounds

You need to replace the current files :

Sms-received1.caf
sms-received2.caf
sms-received3.caf
sms-received4.caf
sms-received5.caf
sms-received6.caf

use iTunes to convert Mp3's :
1) Rename .m4r to .m4a
2) convert .m4a to .aiff
3) Rename .aiff to .caf

Even easier way:

1)Use iTunes to convert tone to .aiff
2)Manually rename file to 'sms-receivedx.caf' where x is the tone you want to replace.
3)SSH into phone and replace file in /System/Library/Audio/UISounds
4) Respring

It is just a standard iOS4 wallpaper, should be the 4th one in the wallpaper selection screen (top right corner) :)

Ah, of course it is :)

I tweeted a link to the post and someone asked me what the wallpaper was. I never actually looked!

Cheers :)

5 row keyboard

Has anyone on iOS managed to get a 5 row keyboard installed? The ones I have found so far are not compatible.

I really want one :)

Can anyone recommend an app that will show me alert icons for new messages, emails received etc on the bar at the top of the phone screen?. I had an app that did this on my old 2G but can't recall what it was called.

does winterboard not do that? it was called summerboard before on 2g

I think you are correct m8, but I took Winterboard off because it was slowing things down. Anything else that does the same thing but not Winterboard related?. I'm just off to have a browse on Cydia and the Appstore to see what is on offer.

Was thinking of getting WiFi Sync now it works with iPad and windows but it says required iTunes 9.1 and im on 9.2 so don't want to buy it and find out it doesnt work

I dont get Wifi Sync.
What is the point of it?

I mean, to sync you need to be near a PC anyway so why not just plug your iPad in to the USB cord and do it like that...?

Am i missing something or is it for lazy people?

Tried it yesterday and it was syncing slowly so un-installed it.

I thought this lol. I always assumed it was a wifi hotspot app so checked it out today and thought eh? If you're near your own wifi/pc wouldn't you rather just sync it via usb and let it do it quicker?

I had the thought you could sync from wherever you are as long as you had wi-fi and your computer was on (like airvideo) though i really don't know..
