US: Fear the Walking Dead

Forgive me for not reading a single post in this topic, as I haven't watch the first ep yet, but I'm wondering how TWD watchers would rate it in comparison to that show? Better or worse? Sure, we only have a single episode, but its a 90 minute one.

Only 1hr without adverts.

I really enjoyed the first episode, TWD has went too stale for me.

90 minutes? Didn't realise it was that long, no wonder it was late when finished maybe I fell asleep? :p

That shows I didn't find it boring like most people here seemed to have.

Was actually surprised to look up after what felt like an hour and find only 25 minutes had past - the first episode is strung out a bit.

It isn't the most gripping opening episode of a show ever - infact almost the opposite but it does show a lot of potential for a good progressive build up over the series - but a lot is going to come down to the writing if they can pull off the atmosphere.

We got zombie vamps in the strain and the same in dusk till dawn..... but I will take my walking dead zombies any day of the weak, only the zombie baby from z-nation beats them all though.

On which note I just hit play on the latest episode of z nation without really paying attention - concentrating on doing something else - the first scene/intro is a quick flashback of that **** baby... jumped a ******* mile. Not usually jumpy to stuff like that but it caught me off guard.

I think its about time they added some special infected or something to add a bit of tension. The standard zombies in TWD seem to be more of a hindrance than a scary threat, even Carl Poppa can take them out with ease. This seems to be the case with FTWD straight off the bat, which is a shame. Maybe some faster ones like 28 days later or some fast zombie dogs like Resident Evil would be good.

I do hope the origins of the zombie plague is explained a bit in FTWD, as TWD seems to be more about the survival of their group, with very little explanation of why it has happened and no end game in sight. Unless I missed it in the earlier episodes.

from TV.com

Given that master of the Walking Dead universe Robert Kirkman (a co-writer along with Dave Erickson) swears that audiences will never learn an exact point of origin for the zombie outbreak......

So it seems unlikely the origins will be explained.

Tried to watch this but gave up half way through. Way to much pointless small talk.

Not much happens in the main show apart from the 10 minutes but this takes it to another level.

Was a bit slow but expected that, the problem I have is I didn't find any of the characters likeable. I really couldn't care if any of them died. Hopefully that will change

Was ok, some of the scenes were bad. I think we all take for granted how well the walking dead team do zombies. We just don't think about that much but by comparison we can see the walking dead team spend ages making the zombies look real. This one the zombies didn't look half as good. Ill watch it through as nothing else on tv these days. Could be interesting to see the initial outbreak.

In walking dead it essentially started with him waking up in hospital months after the outbreak started, if i remember correctly.

Don't forget, all of the zombies in the first few episodes of FTWD are going to be very fresh corpses, so I wouldn't expect them to be as distressed and knocked about as they are in TWD.

I thought the zombies looked good and quite creepy. These are fresh corpses so not sure what you expected them to look like. Personally find them the creepy as you cant be too sure.

Exactly apart from their movement and external injuries, from afar they are going to look human. So even if your are close you cant be too sure particularly if you not expecting something to be wrong.

Really enjoyed the 2nd episode. Tension was definitely there and ramping up. Definitely a start towards the TWD environment.

Was cringing at Madison's behaviour, quite frustrating particularly when she witness infected before. Also the parents could have explained it better to the kids and neighbours?? Typical irrational behaviour that stereotype this type of genre.

Overall still excellent imo.

Enjoyed it as well but as you said, God half of the issues in that episode could have been rectified by an explanation.

Really enjoying this so far, but I am a big fan of TWD, so I'm not surprised I'm enjoying it so much lol.

And while I agree that yes, things could have been solved by an explanation, what would you do to explain things if you didn't actually know what was going on, and had only seen one or two examples of what appears to be happening?

I do wonder though, do zombies exist in these worlds? Feels like the only film to have that in was Shaun of the Dead, where he mentions the Z word hah.

Really liking how the show is slowly building up.

In season 2 the group visited a research place where some guy was trying to develop a cure and explained that everyone's already infected. That's all though, I hope we get to find out more info on the origin of the outbreak.

Wonder if any of the FTWD characters will pop up in TWD?

It was a pretty good example with the dealer and now the headteacher.

They still could have said it was a infection or plague that makes people crazy. Call it rabies if you have to. My point was to emphasis how dangerous it can become.

Half way through the first episode now and its boring the life out of me. Season 2 and 3 of TWD were the best for me, and after that it went downhill. I thought this new series might of repeaked my interest but sadly its not so far. Going to try and stick with it for abit to see if it gets more interesting though.
