Feek's macOS useful tools, utilities and applications thread

It's bonkers it still randomly pops up saying you should 'disable' FileVault otherwise there may be problems. They said they'd resolved it but I still see it randomly on my Macs. As if you'd do that.

Magic Trackpad all the way for me in MacOS. It’s just too good and for me much more comfortable and ergonomic than any mouse (especially the awful Magic Mouse). I have a Logitech MX Master 2 or 3 as well but always come back to the Trackpad for my use at least. Also a big keyboard/shortcut user but not sure if that makes a difference.

I said the trackpad, not the Magic Mouse.

What do you think is wrong with the trackpad?
It's cumbersome and tracking is really bad compared to a decent mouse. For gestures sure but the majority of those are shortcuts or can easily be replicated as shortcuts.

As for the Magic Mouse, it's just bad in terms of ergonomics but as something that is included with some Mac's, i don't think they're completely terrible especially when compared with what Dell or HP, and the likes, include with their machines.

And FYI, i wouldn't purchase (or use) either unless they came with the Mac.

The Magic Keyboard, moreso the 'numerics', i'm all over. Own five of them, mixture of wired and wireless, use them on all of my Mac's and PC's. They're expensive but...

I completely disagree regarding the trackpad. I haven’t had a mouse connected to any Mac I’ve owned since the first trackpad was released. They’re superb, precision is great, gestures work really well.

And I also love the keyboard.

At least we agree on the mouse ;)

Me too, the trackpad is much more accurate than the mouse. Maybe it's because using a mouse on MacOS just feels bad compared to Windows/Linux anyway. I haven't found one that felt 'right'.

Unless someone has a tool that fixes that (bringing us back on topic)?

If trackpads were vastly superior for tracking then it would be the norm amongst FPS players*.

Apple unfortunately gimp some of the features, like smooth scrolling, when using third-party mice which is why a Magic Mouse 'feels' better on screen compared to your MX 3S for example.
Use a third-party app like BetterMouse, Mac Mouse Fix, Mos etc and you'll gain some of those features back.

* - Yes i know there are a few trackpad players around, mostly stem from using laptops, but it's definitely not the majority especially in competitions.

Interesting to hear some of the comments in this thread I'm looking to get a magic trackpad to use in conjunction with my MX3s when I'm docked with my MBP. I've seen a couple of mods to the original magic mouse to make it more like my MX3s and think it would be a winner if they somehow managed to make the sensor a little stronger.

Never used a Magic Mouse so can't comment but looking at pictures it very much seems form over function.

Also if any of you're playing games on your Mac you're a glutton for punishment - I've tried a few minutes of some games on Steam (even ones supporting Apple Silicon) and the experience is minging.

The few native games around aren't too bad and even some emulated/wine x86 games are ok but, Apple dropped the ball years ago on Mac gaming (probably stems from Jobs dislike of them) and it's something i wished they would 'pull a finger out' and spend a bit of their $160+ billion in cash on - it's not as if their hardware couldn't play (to some degree) some of the AAA titles.

Any way, i'm dragging this topic well off-piste so i'll leave it there...
