Ferrari launch thread

No it really is not, the highest part of the Ferrari nose is inside the regulations, all they need to do is taper the front nose down to the lowest measurement without the bump. Not sure why you find that incorrect really :)

Caterham nose setup. Seems to be the same as the Ferrari and Force India nose setups.

They have 15cm to drop the 7.5cm difference in the top of tub bulkhead to the maximum nose height.

To change the nose cone design, requires the new design to pass the FIA crash tests.

Change in front bulkhead, requires the new chassis to be completely retested - and even that may not be allowed under the new regs. Virgin had to ask special permission for a new tub design after their goof with the fuel tank size.

McLaren might be the ones switching nose anyway :) would be easy enough for anyone to change no need for new crash testing etc.

No need, McLarens front bulkhead is below the maximum height so they could have it entirely flat, but they've angled it down as they have done over the last few years. If anything, Mclaren can raise their nose cone to the new limits. But that would also require the nose to be re-crash tested.

LOL!

Looking at it more, it does look like an unnecessary lump of bodywork on top of the nose, rather than needing to be there to support suspension or something.

What I don't get is why it's so steep. Isn't it 7.5cm vertical, over 15cm lattrally. Yet all these step noses are much much steeper than that.
Tiny nose though , make it any thinner and it would just be a sheet of carbon.

7.5cm in 15cm is a 22.5 degree slope, but when you stick a little curve transition at each end it reduces the length and increases the angle a bit. They look like nothing more than 30 degrees or something.

I've never bought into that ugly car nonsense, it's there to win races why do people care if it looks like a turd.

With every change people seem to say the cars are ugly, then after a season or so completely forget about them.

Come next season everyone will be used to the cars and nothing more will be said about the nose.

I don't think words can describe how fugly that nose looks. Of all the seasons in F1 I think only the BMW 2008 beats it in that department. I'm really not fond of Caterham's or Force India's neither. Having those noses just looks completely out of place on these cars. You have nice smooth bodywork until you get to the front wishbone forwards, then it's a Lego Brick!
