FIA to reduce a cars turbo as a penalty in '14?

That would breach the rules. 2 way telemetry is banned.

This system would require 2-way telemetry to the FIA computer, so someone could find a way to hack in and double the boost on their car

By the way, what are the implications of KERS and turbo boost being used together? In percentage terms will the extra given by the KERS be the same for turbo and non-turbo, or would the KERS be better or worse when used with turbo? I don't really understand what parts of the drive mechanism each affects.

Ok, 2 way telemetry from the teams to the cars is banned. The FIA already has 2 way telemetry to the cars (or should, if it worked) to control DRS use and send commands to the dash.

As for the KERS and turbo, it gets far more complicated next year, the KERS (ERS next year, as both Kinetic and Thermal energy recovery are possible) and engine all become one heavily interconnected system, called a 'power unit'. I wrote a post on how it should all theoretically work, I'll see if I can find it.

I wonder how this would work in terms of timing? Would it be x laps done from the start line, or could the FIA impose it at any point? I can't imagine the fans would like to see someone get their boost turned down just as they move out for an overtake.

Doesn't sound very well thought out humph

Maybe its been done before but why not hit the drivers/teams with championship points penalties instead? (Don't play nice well here's -15 points!)

Personally I like this idea about turning down a turbo as a penalty, but it has to be mechanically sound (as for "racing" issues, I would suspect that if the turbo was "turned down" slowly, rather than sharply, this would reduce any issue with raciing incidents, so shouldnt cause any accidents)

I think it is going a bit mad tbh. And will the turbo penalty be dealt with after the race like current penalties?

Can we not just have: 700-800hp. 500kg limit. 2 drivers per team. 3+ wheels (Robin Reliant is allowed...) How you do it is up to you.

At least there will be a bigger mix of machines, it would be a bigger challenge for the teams along with a more interesting race for the spectators. Bit like the DeltaWing idea, but even faster.

What a new and fresh ide.... oh.

****ing terrible idea. What happens if they press the wrong button or mistake a Red Bull for a Torro Rosso?

Why would this form of penalty suddenly mean the stewards become incapable of identifying the right car? They have never accidentally given a Toro Rosso a drive through penalty or a grid penalty when it should be an RBR, why would they suddenly do it now?

With the sheer volume of information the stewards work with the "they could get it wrong" argument is moot.

Doesn't really apply. F1 has always had regulations. It's never been as open as "700bhp and 4 wheels".

Sure, there's engine size and a weight limit and rough dimensions that have always been in the rulebook. Anyway, going to stop now as this is off-topic. And the topic itself is beyond nuts!
