I agree free to use open standards are preferable. I also beleive AMD is a better company overall. The problem is that the proprietary crap that Nvidia pulls is simply better.
And the final kick in the teeth? The price for the 6800XT is the same as the 3080.
- I was happy to keep the FPS provided by my 1080Ti and so when I upgraded it was simply for RT. Ampere's RT performance is up to 100% more than RDNA2.
- I've been looking for a decent Freesync ultra wide monitor for my 3080, yet everything I look at mentions flicker at low frame rates.
- I am very happy to see AMD launch FSR. It looks great for what it is, but again DLSS provides better image quality and for good reason.
So am I a fanboy white knighting Nvidia, while crapping on AMD, or just a consumer buying the best products at the time?
Our favourite website has a new article - No, AMD’s FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) Is Not A DLSS Alternative, And Here Is Why You Should Care - https://wccftech.com/no-amds-fsr-fi...-alternative-and-here-is-why-you-should-care/.
DLSS doesn't run on consoles, it will be all but gone in 2 years.
Of course DLSS doesn't run on consoles. Personally I can't imagine PC gamers abandoning DLSS in favour of FSR. Indeed I have already commented that AMD will hold back PC gaming with RDNA2 and was shot down for it.

With Nvidia sponsored games, those games also run like crap on Nvidia, just not as crap, Games with RT coming out now are much better than that, because Nvidia had no involvement.
Recent RT titles such as Dirt 5, Godfall, Metro Exodus Enhanced, RE Village, etc. use only a simplified form and subset of RT. With the exception of Metro Exodus Enhanced, which was a free upgrade, these are games that have held back IQ due to AMD's RT performance being so poor. I welcome FSR as it should allow AMD sponsored titles to do a bit more with RT.
I've had no issues running Nvidia sponsored RT titles with a 3080 even though I still use an ancient Ivy Bridge system, 3770k and DDR3.

Get a GPU that can run games at more than 18 FPS
You appear to conceed Freesync still has issues at lower FPS? There are no CPU/GPU combinations that won't dip to lower FPS when using the PC for more than just gaming. For example alt tabbing back and forth will stall FPS. I tend to have skype calls on the go or the TV in a window. At the moment I have to close web browsers and virtual machines to game, but I'd rather not with a new CPU. These are applications that can and will use hardware acceleration, which in turn can easily stall FPS in a game.

Nvidia shills are passing judgement on FSR before even seeing it, DLSS is worse than native image quality, its probably not going to look as good as the best examples on DLSS but its going to look better than Nvidia's first attempt at it and like DLSS FSR will also improve in time.
Who's shilling? You admit yourself that FSR is probably not going to look as good as the best examples on DLSS. People far more patient than I have even taken the time to explain in some detail why FSR won't look as good as DLSS. This idea that FSR will improve over time is great. Let me know when it catches up. Rumours are that RNDA3 will add some ML hardware to aid in this.
PS: why are you looking for a Free Sync monitor? What, doesn't G-Sync have HDR or something? Are you not able to find one?
For the obvious reason I don't want to be tied to Nvidia.
PS: What is going on with the levels of paranoia? Digital Foundry, WCCFtech, people with some working knowledge of the industry are all just fanboys, shills and only love Nvidia? Even AMD's poster child commented how much DF liked RE Village. Then after they posted a very restrained and justified PC review that was not so favourable, claimed that DF were just following the money. Wouldn't it be simpler just to point out what the advantage AMD brings to the table in comparisson rather than all this BS?
