FIFA 08 Official Thread

Anyone seen all 3 versions playing?

Can't decide which verison to purchase? PS3, 360 or Wii?????
(One reason why I hate multiformat releases!!!)

The goalkeepers still seem to be like brick walls, and stop everything that goes near them, and it is almost impossible to do someone for pace as well. However, the realism more than makes up for these minor problems.
The goalkeepers save a lot, but there are ways to beat them. I'm glad it's not one successive method (i.e. the cutback), but I wouldn't say the keepers are overly hard.

In terms of beating someone for pace, I really haven't had any troubles. Someone like Kaka, Messi, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Henry, Eto'o etc.. will beat anyone for pace. Also, using the right stick you can knock the ball even further infront to make it better.

Gah, Sarah scored a beauty of a freekick last night and I uploaded it. Checked it now and the ball starts in the back of the net and then straight to kick off.

Nokkon, how did you manage to upload your replay? I've watched some other vids on EA Sports World and other players have done the same as me!

Yep, been there. I watched the replay. Marked in at the start of the move. Started the replay from the beginning and clicked upload. If it's working correctly you WILL see the clip playing frame by frame in the background to know it's worked correctly.

The problems occur when you watch the replay and then press upload. It does it on the fly, so if you press upload after the replay, you'll get the end of the replay. Mark-in then start the replay from the start, press 'Y' and you're laughing :).

We really need to get clips uploaded here :D. If people e-mail me them I'll happily upload them all for you. You can watch them all with the program I linked to. To save them, once they are uploaded to http://www.easportsworld.com you can click a 'save video' link which lets you save the FLV file to your PC. E-mail me that and I'll upload them, this is until EA let you share properly.

Has anyone else noticed any of the following problems ?

Ball passing through players - looks like it happens so the AI can complete 'scripted moves '.

Iffy commentary. Good for most of the time, but gets it glaringly wrong on occasions.

Docile keepers that tend to ignore easily catchable crosses now and again, and refuse to ' charge out ' at times to cut down the angles.

Keepers diving horrendously late for some shots, whereas they appear to dive just as the ball is kicked for others.

AI has the uncanny ability to turn at exactly the right time to avoid your slide tackles a lot of the time.

AI players appear to be able to change direction quicker / arent affected by momentum as much as your own players when using sprint.

I enjoyed the demo, but the more I play the final game on Semi-pro or Pro, the more the flaws / bugs are annoying me and sucking the life out of it.

Time to trade it in I think.

I've never noticed the ball going through players. The commentary is well off at times, such as getting a hand on a penalty, but the penalty going in and they talk about it being saved, but that doesn't bother me much.
Again, my keepers are *generally* sharp, I've never seen them not catch an easy to catch cross, but they do get stuck in no-mans land from looping headers.
AI will always turn at the exact right time in any sports game, that's how it becomes challenging. As there is no actual way to give life to a character that thinks for itself, this is coded into sports games (where it's most noticable).
You can cut in just as quick as the CPU, there's just a method to it. I've done it a few times but I'd be lying if I told you I knew exactly how I do it :p.

I realise that, it just gets annoying being skinned by Titus Brambles dribbling skills  :p

( Still not as maddening as when a player in PES would go on a glory run in the 90th min avoiding every challenge / tackle you threw at them )

I hated that, PES does have it's untackleable moments where you just know it's gonna score. Thankfully nothing that serious in this one. I just think Fifa offers so much in Single Player, Co-Op and Online that I'm blown away by it :). It's better than I hoped :).

This is exactly how im starting to feel, fifa is good to begin with and then you find the flaws, Pro evo is annoying to begin with and then it gets better and better.

Damn you, after reading that I'm going to have throw down some money for this. With PGR4 next week, still playing Halo 3, want Eternal Sonata in a fortnight and still want Two Worlds when I see it cheap. You're costing me a fortune.

Haven't played a Fifa game since 2006 Fifa World Cup, how does this compare?

Good god, it's in a totally different league. Hell, it's a different country, '06 was one of the worst football games in history. Thank God I never paid for it.

in manager mode is there a way to buy a player from a specific club?

ie. say i want to buy henry but he isnt transfer listed, how can i go about it?

Also if you don't search by name, you've got the extra options to search by club, league, positions, whether they're transfer listed, a free agent, by age and most importantly if you're playing as a lower league team (although if you can afford Henry I'd guess your not!) then by price range too!

Very handy tool :)

An annoying thing is though, if you search with criteria say...

League 1, Midfielders, Under £100,000....
and view a profile of a player... it will lose your search criteria :-/

The search remains, and you keep your players, but if you go back to search it's all defaults.
