FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 **spoilers** [20th July - 20th August 2023]

Trouble in Spain camp?
That's been ongoing since the euros when some of the team wanted changes and refused to play. That mutiny is long gone.

He was backed, they stayed not playing and here they are in the final. Not saying they love him or anything now, just it's pretty much old news about players not there.

The Womens game is good, its just slow and the goalkeeping is comical at times. Games are a lot more open so you get more excitement sometimes. I only ever watch the England womens games but I enjoy them for sure. Part of that is being more invested in the result than I would be otherwise.
It has improved a hell of a lot. The goalkeeping you say is comical (much work still needed!) is a million times better than the last WC.

Some of the other matches have been far better tbh although England are one of the ones that show skill on the ball.

Yup, improving, you can see that just by the fact none of the semi-finalists had ever won the WC, it's getting more competitive.

Some (as in most) players seem to tire easily and composure is needed in the box by quite a few teams but no doubt it'll get better at apace.

Why the hell hasn't anyone from the royal family flown out there for this? First final in decades and a no show.

Because no matter what anyone says, it doesn't have the same cultural relevance as the men's game. I also find the constant 1966 mentions quite ridiculous, it's really not the same thing.

I don't really understand why some people are demanding the women's game is viewed the same as the men's - it won't ever be. Can't we just accept it's different and appreciate it for what it is, rather than have these tedious comparisons.

Anyway, hopefully they can do the business tomorrow!

The women's team has made the WC final, the pinnacle of their sport. The least they could have done was fly a couple of female royals out their to support them. Just because it isn't as big as the men's game is irrelevant, it might not mean anything to you but half the population is female and I expect it means quite a lot to lots of them. Its a poor show, they have one job to do and that is support the nation and they've badly misjudged this. Both William and Charles are now apologising for not being there, they could have so easily had someone there. I'm sure they'll want their photos with the team if they win it though.

I am not disagreeing with any of that, just providing a possible reason. William should have gone as he's the FA president - it's a poor show.

If the women's teams had the same finances that mens football enjoys then it would probably have at least as much stamina and skill in the game. It is getting there but like when Jimmy Hill was protesting the players wage cap and most players still worked in a factory during the week it needs to go much further.
At least they are making the finals, Euros, World, our chaps always seem to fall out part way through.

I get that but the president of the FA should be there. Absolute no brainer.

Yeah I'm not thinking he should be there because he's a senior royal but he's literally the head of the organisation the Lionesses are representing!

He should have dropped everything to be out there.

No surprise James hasn’t been brought back in, the last thing we need is her losing her head again and being down to 10. Could be a useful impact sub.

Jill scott surely must have regrets retiring last year

Why would you retire the year before world cup when you have a great chance of winning it
