Spot on, they are not really natural midfielders. Henderson is a runner and Gerrard was supposed to be so good in that deep playmaking role? Gerrard has done nothing this world cup.
 
If England loses, surely they are out no?

It would be

Costa Rica - P1 - 3pt
Italy - P1 - 3pt
Uruguay - P2 - 3pt.
England P2 - 0 pt

If Italy or Costa Rica win, they will be at 6-3-3-0

England play Costa Rica, and if Italy win and England win, it will be 9-3-3-3.

In that case, is it on goal difference or head to head? Cause it would be, Costa Rica beat Uruguay, Uruguay beat England, England beat Costa Rica.

if the Italy game ends in a draw, then its bye bye for England.

EDIT: TV said it's goal difference, then goals scored. England really need to win, or at least, draw.

Glenn Hoddle and Dixon "rooney is playing tooo centrally..........." even though he's been wide quite often and when he was supposed to be wide left he spent most of the game in the middle.

It's almost like they are just idiots who don't know what they are talking about. Rather than just say "rooney's crap drop him" they make excuses and say he should be in a different position. Surprisingly playing an out of form player and said player refusing to stick to his role, is not helping England.

Disagree with pulling him off they need to get Gerrard playing deeper, taking some chances, sure it could backfire but anytime it has happened by accident good things have happened they need to get much more positive linking up between him and 1-2 other forward players (other than Rooney) and I think we have half a chance.
 
The writing is on the wall. England got a pre-WC draw against Ecuador, a no score draw against Honduras, a loss against Italy, and so far losing to Ur a Gay. Seriously, whatever happens now is academic because they are clearly not good enough to go much further. :)
 
They're not definitely out if they lose, no.

It just makes it very ****ing hard and reliant on other results.

Barkley needs to come on this half. Either for Henderson or welbeck.

Why do we insist on playing strikers in wide positions? No other country does it. Rooney and welbeck are not wingers. We have better wingers than them, so play them. If that means dropping Rooney/welbeck so be it.

Firstly being a footballer doesn't mean they are good managers/tacticians/judges of players, Hoddle pretty much proved that he isn't.

It's a completely stupid argument, with no logical validity whatsoever, that someone involved in a sport knows more about it, in fact it's proven wrong every single week as people involved in the sport for decades make terrible decisions, incorrect predictions and stupid statements.

The reality is as usual that guys in these media jobs need to maintain friendships with the players, teams, managers, so they are usually VERY unwilling to say they don't deserve to be playing. they may have an interview with Rooney in the next week, month year or decade, they might be in the studio with these players, or be involved on an FA board, who knows.

The least honest, least critical people are those who need to maintain relationships.

Hoddle and Dixon might be aware Rooney shouldn't have been starting, but that doesn't mean in their position as pundits, that they are willing to say so on camera.

Why do you think they all say exactly what english fans want to hear, and agree in general with the English public, and yet are wrong constantly?

Being great at football for a long career means.... Dixon was a great fullback and Hoddle was a great attacking/creative player, nothing more or less.
