Because he'd have died in there as well. Carrick would make Inge worse, the ball would go exactly where it has been, side ways, so that Welbeck, baines, and Rooney and Johnson can **** it up.

Rooney gets the balls, turns back onto his right foot, takes a step further back and then passes it either backwards or passes to glen Johnson on the otherside, who loses the ball. Rinse and repeat.
 
Sterling and Rooney have lost the ball too many times.

They both attempt to do such risky turns and basically hand Uruguay a perfect platform to counter.

Rooney should score that header as well.
 
Rooney and Welbeck off, Lambert and Lallana on. Needs to happen now to be of any use but knowing Roy the same 11 will carry on til 70 minutes and then he'll wonder why 20 minutes isn't enough for the replacement players to settle in

I think it actually half worked because Rooney was out of position and causing an imbalance in the other teams' tactics they just failed to capitalise on that and are still failing to capitalise on what is working and stubbonly trying over and over again stuff that isn't working which is just completely stupid. Other teams adapt, England don't and unless they change that 2nd half they aren't winning simple as.
 
Very disappointing so far.

I haven't seen passing this bad for quite a while now, it's really very poor. Our players look clueless, and the ref is rubbish too.

Expecting a massive improvement in the second half, or we're gone.

Behave

Llana is tommy tank. Too many turns not enough end product. All his dilly dallying on the ball he will get crunched and lose the ball.

Put Lambert on for what ?? We haven't been able to retain the ball to either cross it into the box or play it in the channels

Problem is age old, England are scared to push on. Very rarely has either full back pushed on with any conviction or quality. England are getting swamped in midfield and can't keep possession. Doesn't help when Jags and Cahill hoof it back up the pitch at the first opportunity and lose possession

Rooney in middle

Nice goal from Luis, Welbeck doing decent down the left, sterling and Rooney nothing. Cahill done well although you'd expect him to have cut out everything he has.

Crap game though
 
Rooney has been fine so far :confused: Good turn and ball for Suarez just after the goal. Welbeck has been dire and Sturridge hasn't been great. We're just not using the ball well and Uruguay are playing at a much higher tempo than us.
