FIFA World Cup 2014 - GROUP D [Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy - 14/19/20/24 June] **spoilers**

Putting aside club loyalties for a second, you would have to be severely mentally challenged, or just landed from another galaxy to think Gerrard contributed anything what so ever over the past two games.

He has been worse than useless.

The problem is they cant. They think the sun shines out of their club players so much it clouds their judgment.

He didn't defend and he couldn't dictate our play. Pirlo showed him how to play that role. Pirlo was just unreal at playing the ball 3 yards and completely turning England inside out.

All Gerrard did was collect the ball from the centre backs, pass the ball to the wingbacks and then look to play a trade mark ineffective "raking" pass. I didn't see him play a single pass that caused the opposition any problems and I didn't see him make a single important tackle.

Actually he defended well on many an occasion and over ran on many others due to two man midfield and poor work from certain wide players. He also can't dictate play effectively with poor movement and options ahead of him. The full backs were basically England's only way of getting to the final third where they eventually tried to move it centrally.

Also where's everyone getting this pirlo role stuff from, it's a completely different setup, would love to see pirlo shoved in that team with that manager.
Funny how he's looked great surrounded by good options and generally a setup that suits that role at Liverpool

Not an England fan, let's get that out the way but for the first time in a decade or two I actually enjoyed watching them.

All the players have performed well and the only problem, for me, is the manager who if anyone thought could mastermind a world cup win should question their own sanity.

I don't blame any individual and I don't blame the squad, they simply don't have the manager to take them to that next level.

He doesn't like Scandinavian's Robbo. When the going gets tough he's not a nice old man.

What's most worrying is that I could have told you (and said so many times on these forums) that those 2 can't play as a 2 man midfield together 2 years ago.

As I've banged on about since before the tournament, Hodgson's job was easy. Pick Gerrard, Henderson, Sterling and Sturridge in the roles they play for Liverpool, Rooney in Suarez's role and then pick somebody to fill the Allen/Coutinho role.

He had half of a very good side that's drilled in playing a certain way ready and waiting for him and he chose to ignore it.

Makes perfect sense, lets hope italy can do us a huge favour..

I like Hodgson, I think he's a nice enough old man, but he's the wrong man to take England any further. I hope he resigns or at least comes to some sort of agreement with the FA.

Not sure who I'd have to replace him, though.

If he doesn't go to Real Madrid, I hope the English press make his life a misery next season.
:D:D

i agree with you about the movement. it was non existent most of the game. the only time players moved were if the player with the ball was running forward.

I thought we played pretty well, and didn't deserve to be beaten like that. The Danish commentators were on our side too ;) We badly lacked finishing; Sturridge squandered too many chances and Rooney passed the best chance of the game to the keeper. Meanwhile Suarez showed how it should be done at the other end.

Once again our best players were the younger crew, I think there's reason to be hopeful for 2018.

Performance was poor tonight around 70% possession and absolutely nothing from it, only Rooney performed and showed the slightest bit of passion and that's probably because of the stick he got and that's not just because he scored the goal either. Sterling wasn't the same player on the right unfortunately, the defence as per usual is absolute shocking, Gerrard and Henderson are two holding midfielders? why both holding midfielders the whole game we lacked options up front especially playing a rubbish 1 striker formation expecting Sturridge to act in a Ibrahimovic type of role. Joe Hart again didnt fill me with promise, and for me i would have played Rooney and Sturridge upfront with Barkley on the left Sterling on the right Wilshere and Gerrard in the Centre roles. Not impressed in the slightest, especially since I got covered in beer when we scored for **** all.

Suarez on beating #ENG: "I dreamt this. I'm enjoying this moment, because of all I suffered, the criticism I received. So, there you go."

What exactly has he suffered? What criticism does he speak of? The whole being a **** thing?

He must know he is leaving Liverpool to come out with something like that, unless he really is stupid enough to insult his own fans.
