Welbeck is listed as one of our strikers - ie. a player expected to get us goals and he quite plainly doesn't do that!

It's funny how having a striker unavailable due to injury means our team selection will be more attacking! Just says it all about Welbeck!

He's scored 8 in 20 under Hodgson. That's not awful considering that he's rarely actually deployed up front.

So pick him as a midfielder and include someone who can score regularly for his club as an alternative striker - Lord knows he can't really be considered a striker for Man Utd either with his record!

Besides, his 8 goals haven't exactly been against the best teams in the world!

There are far better options out there whether you choose to class him as an attacking midfielder or a striker imo!

Getting past the group stage is doing well for this England team tbh, not an easy group.

I suspect England will go 4-2-1-3 (or 4-2-3-1 if you prefer) in order to play someone near Pirlo, stopping him from spraying balls around like he did last time we played them, so Welbeck will probably start if he's fit.

I'm not sure we'll man mark him tbh, Rooney will try and nip it off him no doubt but if we man mark Pirlo we sacrifice a man, i don't think it's worth it personally.

How do u guys rate Hodgson as a manager? I'm not really scared of England since he is managing them. Think he's a decent old fashioned manager but dont think he can get the better of Italy in the first game if i'm being honest.

I would bet on England crashing out of the group and Italy/Uruguay qualifying ahead of England.

Why? Uruguay's captain just got released from West brom. Pretty hilarious. They have Suarez, granted, apart from that we can have them. Italy are obviously going to be a bit tougher but i don't see why we have such a bad mentality when it comes to our national team. We can win the group i think. Draw v Italy, wins v Costa Rica and Uruguay..

I think that's hugely pessimistic. There are a lot of people being remarkably negative on here about our chances in that group. We're not a worse team than Uruguay.

We *might* not get out the group - it's by no means a sure thing - and if we don't then I'm sure that people will delight in telling everyone how right they were, but to write us off at this stage isn't right.

Go and bet for England to get out the group then, we're 3rd favorite so the odds are quite generous. I just don't see us as being able to get out the group, granted Uruguay aren't great, but I don't think England are at a point where they can be considered better.

I'll be rooting for England to do well in there games, and I hope they will, I just don't think they will. I'll be happy to be proven wrong. Either way I think it will be a fantastic group, be brilliant for the neutrals I reckon.
