FIFA World Cup 2014 - GROUP D [Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy - 14/19/20/24 June] **spoilers**

Meh, just play 9 CBs and a corner taker

Lallana did himself no harm tonight. Probably our best player tonight, not that we've done too much. Hendo has been tidy too.

lol at that paper aeroplane shot

Glen Johnson is my biggest worry for the world cup, he can't even control the ball in a zero pressure game :/

Peru had their chances to score 3-4 goals and fluffed them, we scored one decent goal and two poor ones on their part... we're going to need to improve a better team is going to punish us and not hand us any goals on a plate.

Student of mine got a free ticket and just texted me this pic from his seat. :)

Johnson was dire, Rooney and Welbeck who? A shame that Peru didn’t give them more of a defensive workout. Team lacking cohesion and look to be a long way from being ready for the tournament.

Highlights of the match were Sturridge’s goal, the airplane throwing and the Mexican wave. Says it all really.

Is there any footage of the player getting hit in the head with the paper aeroplane? there was a massive roar in the crowd but ITV never showed it.

I bet it's not long before the FA get rid of the paper clapper things the side of the pitch looked like Heathrow airport.

edit: found it...

I feel really, really, bad about our chances in the World Cup (more than usual) with Johnson playing at RB. He is such a liability in the team. Going forward and losing the ball over and over and never managing to close the gap he has left open because of his ineptness, really is going to be an area that teams will exploit massively, especially teams that have pacey wingers.

I really don't know why Hodgson named him in the WC squad after all the balls-ups he did for Liverpool against Crystal Palace... I'd rather we played 3 centre-backs and one LB than use Johnson.

As for the whole back four, I think the only defender who seems to be switched on is Cahill. Jagielka always seems to be leaving a gap open himself, and Baines is always pushing forward without checking he has cover - which again is another liability. But the main difference between Baines and Johnson going foward, is Baines doesn't constantly lose the ball.

It should be interesting seeing how we cope with some of those longs balls in from Italy's midfield into our half.

Johnson was fine at the Euros and fine in the World Cup before. If there were better players he wouldn't be in the team but there aren't, he's the best we've got.
