Rooney and Gerrard should be dropped. I would prefer to see Barkley play and probably Wilshere. Rooney would be a decent sub to bring on when Sturridge gets tired, but that's about it really. Gerrard keeps being touted to play the "Pirlo" role, but I don't think he really has the mental ability and range of passing to be even half as good as Pirlo.
Thought we played quite well at times, would like to have seen sterling play more central.
Rooney was poor, didn't see what any of the subs brought to the game and I was surprised that she we needed a goal he didn't bring Lambert on, surely that is the reason he was brought to Brazil?
Didn't see the earlier game but based on that performance I feel more optimistic about getting out of the group than I did yesterday.
I also thought that with the youth in our team we should have been counterattacking faster than we did, to often the ball seemed to get held up giving Italy a chance to set up their defence properly.

Wow some of you are unreal. We played well. Only change to starting line up is possibly rooney off and barkley on. Wellbeck prpved he does more than lallana. Other than that we were good elsewhere. Shouldve stamped down on the wing play but otherwose we made great chances and italy made 2 - their goals.
As ever Italy found a way... this world cup is about progress and tonight i saw progress....

But Rooney's meant to be a finisher is he not? It's what he gets paid 300K a week to do?
Italy have exposed England's weaknesses.
Uruguay will know exactly what to do and they have the talent.
Costa Rica showed good counter attacks today.
4 points is probably the average expectation for me.
And other defensive players did so, or sterling in the half way line as England were breaking, Gerrard certainly not the worst offender
Defensively poor, no pressure on the ball, no attacking flair.
People are saying we played well, it was garbage.
No end product, build up was too slow, people moving away from the man on the ball, people not moving into space.
Compare how we approached this game, to how the Dutch approached playing the world champions yesterday and the difference is shocking.

Because most of his closing down was ultimately useless, and he made some big mistakes, Italy's corner Welbeck's job would have been to rush to edge of box but just stood around doing nothing. CB's waiting a second for others to close down, which should have been Welbeck, then eventually ran out. Welbeck can close down in the opposite half of the pitch because, it's mostly pointless work, and most people don't bother because you get back condense and get solid in your own half.
He wasn't bad but he wasn't good. If you're playing effectively one of the 3 of 4 most attacking roles you need more quality in and around the box. A talented player can close down someone as well, but Welbeck doesn't offer the talent required upfront.
That is literally as good as Welbeck gets, made a huge mistake at a defensive set piece, and wasn't good enough in an attacking sense.
I also want to see Gerrard dropped and these players put in midfield, it'd be ****ing glorious

Pirlo ran the show again tonight, always plays the right pass at the right time. Will be sad to see him retire.
We don't really have anyone better in that position, and Gerrard just looked like an old man tonight, possibly due to the conditions. I know Wilshere is a crock, but he's more of an athlete than Gerrard is. We either need a Pirlo that can play/dictate posession football and unhinge defences, or athletes who can run for 90 minutes.
Yep then play him in his position or bring him on as a sub in his position when someone you consider is better it tired. He's not a left winger, nevre will be yet he still served a goal up on a plate.
Balotelli by the same token the Italians didn't want in the side with better in form players on the bench. Rooney is an easy player to hate and was no worse than most of the team. Final 3rd just wasn't good enough and he was far from the only one.
We started well (very well infact) but it turned into garbage for much of the game, don't get the calls for getting rid of Gerrard either sure his game was a bit understated but he was doing pretty well mostly - just seemed to be struggling to play 100% his best with the conditions with some slight tweaks I think he can bring a lot to England's game still.
