FIFA World Cup 2014 - GROUP D [Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy - 14/19/20/24 June] **spoilers**

What does that mean as a stat, would Baines have created more goalscoring opportunities than Rooney too because of the crosses he put in?

The only english player that got more assists than rooney was Gerrard. I'd like to see what 'creating goal scoring opportunities' amounts to. A cross in the box? Do you have a link to that or a comparison?

Geez mate. Calm down. You don't happen to be Wazza himself, do you? I wasn't criticising the guy, I was simply stating that I'd heard Lallana created more goal scoring opportunities that anyone in the EPL last year - and I'd assume a cross would only count as a GSO if it connected with an attacking player.

No concrete link I'm afraid, I just heard it on the TV, although it's mentioned in several blogs - 69 GSO's for the season apparently.

To be honest with you, I couldn't care less who we play or what formation we use in our next couple of games, just as long as we get through to the second round.

The amount of genuine football knowledge generated on this forum amounts to three fifths of sod all, it's just armchair MOTD enthusiasts spouting ignorant rubbish because they believe watching Sky Sports Super Sunday is the pinnacle of a genuine football experience. Best to take everyone's professional opinion with a pinch of salt and realise that none of us our correct, none of us know the team better than Roy and none of us having technical first team coaching experience! ;)

I'm totally calm, all I did was ask a question on what it even meant. Hence the question marks at the end of every sentence :p

The weather conditions are irrelevant. The same applies to both teams.

If England are more attacking because it's cooler, then so will Uruguay be.

Not necessarily - Uruguay's first game was on the coast and England's was in the rainforest. Conditions for England vs Uruguay are likely to be much cooler than England's first game, but not much different from Uruguay's first game.

Having said that, England are not likely to become world-beaters because of that :)

Either start Rooney and give him til half time to prove himself, or bring him on as an aggressive sub 65mins+
Would be pretty tasty to bring both an angered Rooney and The Ox on with 25mins left!

Speak for yourself I have being playing Football Manager for years now. I have 1000's of hours of first hand experience and I have managed all over the world winning every single trophy there is to win. :p

Rooney's best position is number 9 and he is not particularly good as number 10, but he does have some vision and craft. He has got it into his head that he needs to be a cultured playmaker instead of a defence destroyer a la Drogba/Balotelli.

That being said, I think Rooney should play the AM role over Sterling. This way, Rooney and Sturridge could interchange and I think they are about as effective as each other as Number 10's

Sterling is not a particularly creative player and is at his most damaging when exploiting wing space. His through ball to Rooney was excellent, but it was really the only option he had on. His output in the middle was pretty average and he looked much better on the wing.

I would play Lallana, Rooney and Sterling behind Sturridge. With Rooney and Sturridge swapping places occasionally.

edit- the other problem that Rooney faces is that up front, no one has been creating much. if he plays as 9, who is the chance creator feeding him?

Don't want to change this into an FM thread, but here it is

Suarez fit for England game. Trouble is with Liverpool players in central mid, no-one will try and nobble him. Put Milner in to give him a really early whack :)

Couldn't ask lampard as the slow sod wouldn't get close to him.

The question is how fit - fit like Ronaldo in the champions league final?

It didn't work really well. Rooney created 3 chances and 1 assist. Sturridge and Sterling created one chance each, wellbeck nothing. Hardly anything to write home about, the end product was still **** from them all. I understand we get excited in this country when we get to see players run at the opposition but Sterlings performance was no different to when people got wet when Lennon, Walcott and others ran fast with the ball beat players and then created nothing. I think sterlings performance has been over blown. It's not like he was feeding Sturridge with chances or anyone.

Sturridge put his chance in the net, Rooney couldn't even hit the target. Bottled it. Mr potatoe head should be dropped and used as either a sub or mascot. :p

England will play Rooney and we will be out by Thursday.
