FIFA World Cup 2018 - GROUP G [Belgium, Panama, Tunisia, England - 18/23/24/28 June] **spoilers**

Where's FoxEye??
Watching the match :p

It was a good team performance (minus Sterling) against... Panama.

Let's not get carried away, eh? I'd rather keep my expectations rock bottom than starting posting nonsense like "We're going to win it!" no matter how facetious the tone. However it was better than expected. I wasn't at all confident England would beat them.

I think a lot of people - if they're truly honest - are feeling more than a little relieved after that ;)

I can’t believe people are complaining after we’ve just won 6-1.

Was it the toughest opponent? No. Was it a perfect performance? No. Does it really matter now that we’ve qualified? No.

What a game :D Great stuff in the first half, and I'm not in the least bit surprised we took our foot off the pedal for the second half.

It's coming home! :D

Sterling shouldn't be starting against Belgium - He was non-existent yet again. That position is Rashford's.

Already given credit to the team for a decent performance.

Now, here's your challenge: find something good about Sterling's performance :p I dare ya...

It'll be interesting to see what changes Southgate makes to the team for the Belgium game.

There's a good argument for resting a few ahead of the knockout stages, but equally you don't want to change too much. My suggestions would be Rashford for Sterling, Dier for Henderson and Rose for Young.

Why would you bring Dier on, just to give the quietly excellent Henderson a rest?

Can agree with the others though.

He provided a well timed and weighted return pass to give the assist on Lingards goal.
Not good enough tho.

As said, he had about 10 touches and managed to give away 5+ free kicks (count em!). Impressive for a bloke who barely touched the ball.

He also gave away the ball (much too easily) on at least 3 occasions.

Factoring all that in he probably did more to help Panama than England. I guess at least he conceded most of the free kicks in Panama's half. The one time he tried to do some defending in England's half he... you guessed it... fouled and conceded a free kick.

Really just not good enough, I'm afraid.

You asked for one thing, I gave you one thing. I dislike Sterling enough that I'd probably not even have him on the bench (as you'll see if you read my posts about him) but even I'm finding your constant negative posts about him a bit tedious now.

Suggest you use the ignore button then. If Southgate keeps playing him I expect I'll be posting a lot more in along a similar vein in future :p

Otherwise I'm afraid I couldn't care less what your opinion of me is :)

It's not about who England will face in Group H. It's the teams that sit beyond that. If England top their group, you're probably looking at Brazil or Germany in the quarters, then France or Spain/Portugal in the semis.

If they finish second, then you're looking at the quarters being Mexico, Serbia or Switzerland. Semis would probably by Croatia or Spain/Portugal.

Clearly we were watching different games. Sterling did nothing useful in the one I watched. But hey, if you want to believe he's a useful/good player for England, self-delusion is not against the law - have at it :p

Anway, Moses, do you understand context? I'm not sure you do. My opinion of them in this context is as professional footballers. So when I made the comment that "My opinion of them is as low as could be," that is not relative to mass murderers, Hitler, or Theresa May. It's purely my opinion of them as professional footballers.

You see this is why people say context is really important in discussions. Without context you can straw-man till the cows come home, as you've ably demonstrated by waffling on about paedophiles and some nonsense. Really there was no need of that, was there...

I don't think Vardy has had a meaningful touch yet.

I think this is the second game Vardy has been on the pitch, with little impact. We all know how he plays, but this isn't the way England play. I noticed a couple of times, Vardy ran into space and no pass to him, he ends up running around like a headless chicken.

I feel for him as he is a good striker, but I can't see him getting another game in this World Cup.

Partly to rest Henderson, partly just because it makes sense to give him game time, just in case he's needed in the latter stages and midfield is one of the positions more likely to pick up yellow cards, which could end up being important

@FoxEye, I can excuse your lack of knowledge as you only watch international football but there is more to football especially how a team acts off the ball as well as on it. England’s movement has been very good so far, Sterling does excel in this, hence why Pep loves him. He might not be scoring or assisting a shed load but there is more to a player’s game than those two stats.

Nah. They're pretty much the 2 reasons a forward is on the pitch.
